Motocrossx23's SV650 Modification/Build Thread

As most of you know, I finally got around to replacing the Ninja after selling it in August of last year. I ended up picking up a pretty mint 2005 SV650N, a bike that I have been eyeing for the past 2 years now.

Specs on the day I picked it up:

2005 SV650N
6700 miles
Yoshimura SS Slip-On Exhaust
OEM radiator shrouds
Givi Touring Windscreen

Pictures from when I bought it:

The nice thing about the seller was that he had a box of parts that had never been touched by him, and he gladly turned them over to me

To my surprise, the stocked “N” windscreen, rear grab bar and OEM oil filters were in the box, SWEET!

So off with that UGLY UGLY UGLY Givi windscreen and back to “stock”

Next thing I wanted to do was get rid of the OEM “shovel” aka tail flap. For this, I ordered the EVOTECH Fender Eliminator from the UK:

NOTE: The solo seat cover was not lining up properly, so I found a tip on SVRider.com to swap the rubber boots from the passenger seat to the solo seat cowl to lower the profile and allow for a more flush look, it’s all better now

I also ordered a Phillips bulb from the UK, it’s not US street legal but allows me to run a VERY bright light. I obviously will not be doing HIDs on this bike because there is no easy way to mount a housing and everything else, so this will do…plenty of light!

Here’s how the bike sits as of tonight…I plan on cutting down the Yoshi slip-on tomorrow. I feel as though the stock size that slip-ons come in are no more than a “suggestion” than anything else…lol.

Also plan on removing those frame stickers once it gets warmer out, it’s soo cold that whenever I try to peel them they just break apart…gay!

Stay tuned

Lookin good, but what happened to project GS750? lol

Nice… i dislike the yellow radiator shroud things…

Let me be the first to say that… also, i think you need dual front headlights…

Also, i think you need 100 more hp.

and more orangeness to the paint

and more 636 rear shock

and more gsxr forks

and more tracktime

that’ll do… maybe brake lines and pads too.

Looks good. xo.

All in due time <3 lol

The GS750 project will happen, just not until the weather gets nicer, aka summer time.

Looking good . Is it just me or is the right rear turn signal seem twisted down?

You’re absolutely correct, they weren’t tightened down at the time.

Ditch the stickers, cut that pipe down. It’ll look cool.

high mount pipe. do iiiitttt

Two issues with the high mount:

1- I either lose functionality of the passenger pegs, or I loose the right rear turn signal.

2-I don’t feel like having a custom mid-pipe made.

I’m gonna rock a shorty pipe for a bit and see if I like it, I’ll probably change it anyways.

Package came in the mail yesterday:

It’s an automatic timing retard eliminator (A-TRE). Basically tricks the computer into thinking it’s always in 4th-5th gears (highest torque and widest powerband). Not bad for $20 shipped. It’s a huge mod for the SV’s and TL/R’s.

Also forgot to add, I installed the R6 throttle tube on the bike the other night. The SV has a HUGEEEEE throttle throw stock, and for $8 you can’t go wrong with the R6 throttle tube mod. It’s the cheapest and easiest way to turn a nasty throttle into a 1/4 turn throttle. Plus you get two new grips

i have my oem rear shock. If you want it, it’s yours, Chris.

^Tim why didn’t you tell me this when you guys were over? Lol, I’ll definitely take it.

After you left we got the bike all synced and put the TRE in, holy crap…lol. It seriously opens the bike up like crazy.

Pictures from today:

Bar-end mirrors:

I thought this was fuel injected

It is, but the throttle bodies needed syncing because I messed with one of the set screws not realizing what it actually adjusted. Only took about 20 mins to get it back to perfect lol.

Video I took of Brian taking the bike out after we put all the goodies on the bike

I fucking love my bike. <3

Looks cold

It wasn’t too bad, we’ve had a horrible spring so far…last year yesterday was 79 degrees…lol.

Cleaned up the garage today and did a few things to the bike:

Reflective wheels stripes:

Now just need to take off the exhaust and cut it down at work

Also, anyone know where I can get stainless steel rivets locally?

Dont you work at lowes?!?!? lol <3

Ps, I owe you a meal next time I’m in town. dont let me forget. xo

Side note, ride this for the first 2 months to get used to it, then throw some real tires on it so you can enjoy the way this things meant to turn

pss. Looking good!

Wow, yeah those tires look pretty suspect.

I tell you what though man, by the look of the bike and those chicken strips, you really did get a gem didn’t you?

Love the wheel stripes, adds a nice touch to the bike.
