Another feminine addition to the garage!

Talked to the seller. He had never done the coilpacl on this particular car but he pointed me in the direction of some information on vwforum.

http://www.vwforum.com/forums/f15/all-about-vw-coil-packs-53373/

“2.0’s use two coils in what is called a wasted-spark ignition system. The coil fires two cylinders at once, but since only one of the cylinders is on the compression stroke, the other spark is “wasted”. Coil pack problems on 2.0s are extremely rare as they share no components with either of the above two systems.”

It may be smart to purchase an OEM replacement just in case, or at the first sign of misfire, but Im not too worried about it after reading that article. Seems like the 2.0 motor and coil setup is fantastic  Thanks to this article and the BadnewsMike for the positivity.

The above systems were the 1.8t and VR6

Hopefully you have better luck than the 5 2.0’s I did coil packs on for friends in the past 6 months. A few were just old with bad contacts, a few were old and cracked allowing moisture to get in and cause misfires. Good design yes, but they do fail and it does suck.

If it were me is buy one and keep it around for when it randomly acts up.

I have 6 extra at my house for my R. They were newer and then the PO got them replaced under warranty just before I bought it.

Like I said I will heed to the caution that you have mentioned and will buy an extra one to have around since the car is higher mileage. The part is inexpensive and easy to install. If it starts to misfire I will replace it. This car will be a summer only driven car, mostly driven by my gf, and will not be driven hard. Not too worried about the coil.

Those seats are in like-new condition. That’s a pretty sharp cab.

Yes, sir. The entire interior was swapped out for black - carpet seats, etc. everything is in great shape! car has been well taken care of. Excited to see it in person and drive it!

Good idea to have one around.

It’s not hard driving that you’ll notice it, it’s any kind of rain or wet weather where you will. Not saying you’re going to have a problem, just pointing out when and what kind of conditions you will notice a problem if you have one.

My buddy’s was cracked for 2 weeks before our work schedules were both free at the same time. Dry days it drove perfect, any kind of rain it would misfire like crazy.

On a side note the interior looks really clean

Well, seeing as how it’s a convertible, it will only be driven top down on dry days with no rain. Coilpack problem solved.

Yes the interior is fantastic. probably what sold me on this car to be honest. A lot of them out there that have nice exteriors seemed to have beat up interiors.

Cute little bitch basket you got there

Hey! its my gf’s car. she’s not a bitch! lol

I like how amped you are about this purchase. Hopefully it all pans out

Super amped. My girlfriend really likes it so it just makes me that much more excited. I enjoy these cars for some weird reason. I really don’t see this falling through unless we go to buy it and mysteriously there’s no engine or something lol

One more piece of info on these coils.

No Huco, no Karlyn. Bosch, Beru or dealer-only. Failure rates on all of the other aftermarkets are ridiculous.

Wow nice cabby! Hope the sale pans out for you.

Yes, sir. Thank you. That’s what I’ve been reading in some of the posts Ive found. Apparently VWs only like OEM parts. Who would have thought?! haha I would trust Bosch , and Ive never even heard of the others you listed. So, yea OEM or bust it looks like. Im sure if this car ever has a problem I will be bringing it to you though haha

Thank you!! It really looks like it will pan out. 99.9% sure haha. We have a time and meeting place to get with the seller this Saturday. Going to look the car over real nice, girlfriend will drive it, I’ll drive it. She will make the final decision on the spot if something doesnt feel or look right.
