Who gets SD movies?

The file structure doesn’t matter for movies so much as the link to IMDB. If the filename is ateam.r5.paragon.hackhappy.mkv you need a text file in the same directory as the movie file named ateam.r5.paragon.hackhappy.nfo, and the first line of that txt file has to be the link to the movie on IMDB. This is really easy since 90% of the time an nfo file comes with the download already named properly. I just go in and move the link to the top. For TV series they need to be named showname.s01e03.whatever.*** (s01 = season 1, e03 = episode 3). Most of the stuff I download now has all the episodes name correctly but sometimes I have to rename a couple files to get them formatted right. Arrested Development as an example has it’s own folder and all the files for all three seasons are in there. There is one “Arrested Development.nfo” (named to match the folder) and that has a link to thetvdb.com page for Arrested Development. Top Gear I have broken out in folders by season just for my organization purposes on my hard drive but the jukebox wouldn’t care as long as the file names are right.

Once you get the jukebox setup you just run a program and click “create jukebox”. The first time it takes a loooong time to download and process all the artwork but later when you’re adding a couple new things it takes now time at all. Each time it scans all your directories and looks for anything that needs updating. With my massive collection it takes the updater about 20 seconds to add a new title, and all I have to do is click on button and walk away.

Every now and then I’ll forget to add an NFO file and the jukebox software will try to figure out what the movie is based on filename with generally comical results. “A Day With Thomas Edison” showed up and I had to play it to figure out it was one of the kid’s episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine.

It’s called an R5 release, and they generally only come as DVD iso’s. I got that months ago, long before any DVD or BluRay was available.

wow, jay that is great! can i copy your HD? what is your price?

Sorry guys, I draw the line at piracy, not distribution of pirated stuff. Don’t want to make the leap from recreational user to dealer.

What am I saying. I mean all my stuff is legit rips of stuff I own, and that’s why I can’t give out copies. Yeah. that’s it.

But yeah, the popcorn hour is by far the best piece of technology I’ve ever bought. I think I’m going to get an A200 for Christmas and move the A100 to another TV.

I still want to set up some sort of NAS device to my pch because my little 1tb hard drive is almost out of room and I don’t want to keep switching hard drives

Seems like to Boxee Box is going to be some serious competition for the existing options out there…

I wonder if I can take the guts out and put it in a shell that won’t look so out of place with my other electronics?

I made sure to get a motherboard with 6 sata ports when I built my Win7 box. When ever I start getting low on space I just slap in another drive. The mklink command is your friend. Guide: How to setup YAMJ on Win 7 with multiple shares!. Basically the PCH looks at one folder, and in that folder are dynamic links to E:\media, G:\media and H:\media.

EDIT:… how do you post ": " without the space and not get a stupid smiley?

boxee is available as free software, so you could build a cheap media PC or buy one of those little dell boxes for a similar price.

the thing is i dont like having to have my computer on to watch movies which is why i like the internal HD option in the PCH, thats why i want a NAS device that is not directly connected to my computer

Yeah, I keep my server on 24/7/365 so it’s not a problem. It’s handles my printer sharing, file hosting, newsgroup downloading, laptop backups and remote access so it’s always on.

But then you carry the overhead of running the OS too. The dedicated device will outperform (most) htpcs.

that’s true
