So I was over at my brothers last weekend and we were watching some shows on his Apple TV 2 that he has jailbroken. It got me thinking that I should look into it. Has all the new movies, apps and shows all at his fingertips. Anyone on here have a similar setup? Looks like you gotta drop $200-250 to get one.
They’re $99 shipped right from Apple’s website. Chromecast is only $35 and worth looking into also.
I think ATV3 is $99, but there is no jailbreak for it yet. The ATV2 is selling for much higher because you can jailbreak it to install your own programs/packages. I think this is what I’m seeing anyways…

I have the Samsung BD-F5900 Blu-Ray player… does all that stuff. Hulu, Netflix, streams from my network server, wifi connectivity with my Samsung phones/tablets, etc.
I have a chromecast and apple tv and use both :tup:
And the Apple TV is $99
There is no jailbreak for the $99 Apple TV though right? That’s why everyone is overcharging for the ATV2

It appears you can do a tethered jailbreak and downgrade from a quick google search
I haven’t even taken my Chromecast out of the box yet from Christmas. Anything I’m missing by not tearing into it yet?

I like my Apple TV 2 with jailbreak. XBMC is great. A few things to note, though.
1 - it only does 720p
2 - CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT. You must have a good content library that is well organized and an easy way of obtaining new content.
No worries. I’m wondering if it’s worth it to drop $200 on an ATV2 and jailbreak it (more like $250 already jailbroken) or just spend the $100 and wait for the ATV3 to be cracked.

why is everyone saying that the quality is better than PS3/Xbox if it’s only 720p?
So the real thing is what are you trying to use it for?
Most people jail break and install XBMC and stuff if you’re not going to use iTunes there are plenty of other devices that do the same thing
You can get $100 Roku that does 1080p
I have Directv, xbox360 and a bluray player that streams Netflix, Hulu, etc… I also have an ipod touch, iphone 5, and ipod air. I would like to be able to get access to shows on Netflix and other apps, access to 1channel for new movies and occasional sports that are blacked out.
The reason I threw my current apple products is because I know I can link them with the Apple TV.
There is a Roku app for iWhatever
If you’re not using iTunes to consume whatever content then the Roku does everything you need.
Are you suggesting a Roku 3 with Plex?
That is the route I would go…
So using the Roku 3 + Plex, do I still need subscriptions to netflix, hulu, hbo go etc…?
