i just learned how to play like 3 days ago…i like it…anyone wanna give me some tips??..i’m not expecting to become pro player or anything…just like to play for fun…
oh by the way…i’m NEW to this site…my name is Ron:wave: …hope to meet all you guys soon…
Free online poker is a waste of time. People don’t play in a rational manner unless there is money at stake. I normally play against my family on the weekends.
That book by Sklansky is awesome, i owe a copy myself. yea just read and play… play 1/2NL or something to start with at casino niagra or seneca. online and real games are like night and day tho so id pick one to start with before your jumping back and forth… and know ur pot odds and all taht good stuff
I think most people need a lot more experience before reading Slansky’s book…some concepts are hard to get around if you haven’t seen a lot of hands.

If you don’t have the money to play HIGH dollar online play ($1000 tables and up) ONLY play in sit and go tourneys or you will have holes in your walls from bad beats…You can easily place in the money in $10 & $20 sng’s 80% of the time if you play smart & tight…Also don’t play 1/2 NL at the US Casino if you want real play, that’s why I got them to open a 2/5 table, it has much more solid players. If you really want a good poker game, sit at the 5/5 NL (200-500 buy ins)…other than that the only real fixed limit games I’ve seen at the casino are 10/20 and 20/40 but those require quite a big stack to sit with.
The key to winning poker is knowing when to bet or raise to pick up a pot.
yeah we played a couple times…I got tired of 1/2 and started playing 5/5 only…then I eventually got them to open a 2/5 NL table (100-200 buy in) it’s a very good game b/c most of the “lotto” 1/2 players didn’t come along.
I’ve been too busy to get up there any time recently, but I’ve been making solid money grinding online…
the only way to get good is to lose money as odd as that sounds, because you realize what hands are good, what draws are good, and then you will see beats that you take and why you lost that hand
books are only good for playing limit, when position comes into play a great deal, pot odds, and what not
in NL you can pick up tells putting players on cards with the size of their bets/raises and position of the bet
I don’t get in pots where I have a doubt that I don’t have the best hand because why throw your money away when you can sit around for a big hand
GET YOUR MONEY IN WHEN ITS GOOD AND FOLD WHEN ITS NOT
you cant lose what you dont put in the middle, but then again you cant win much either
when I sit at a table I like to sit out the first 10 hands or so just to see how the other guys play. It just comes with the experience
:word: Best advice I was given: When you know you have the winning hand, take the pot. Don’t fuck around, or else somebody might catch the card they need to beat you. Take the pot when you have the winning hand.
