since every thread seems to go this way eventually; i’ll add that you cannot use deadly force to prevent a simple assault. your actions must always be proportional to the threat. that is to say that you can’t shoot someone that punches you in the face unless you have reason to believe that he’s trying to kill you (and you’ll have to prove that…)

Take any kind of martial arts.with any type of matrial arts, after some time, u develop self confidence, and most important of all, a type of fight mode. I dunno how else to describe it as being aware of a hostile situation and have ure body in the right place in the right time. Practice untill it becomes second nature. Ive takin a martial art for nearly 4 years and it really does become almost an instinct. Sometimes, just fukin around with friends well be messin around and ill pull a move that i dont even think about, it suprises me. kinda kewl. ya gotta stick with it thought to keep ure mind sharp. YOu cant take 2 classes of boxing and expect to defend ureself in a dangerous situation. Adrenaline will completly take over and youl forget all u have learned. Mental conditioning is what its mostly about. I practice about 3-5 hours a week in classes and open bouting. I think its kinda crazy what people can do that devote their entire life 2 it.

“fight for you life” means your ass has to stay alive, and be able to walk away.
balls/eyes/throat are great ways to disable your attacker. After 1, or 2 stikes to any of those areas, you can either flee to saftey, or move in for the kill, or knockout blow to the head. I prefer a rear naked choke, leaves almost no scaring, or redness, but your attacker is now outcold ready to be pissed on.
Hitting someone in the nose or eyes with a simple slap or backhand (and sometimes jab) will cause tearing, and or disorientation, allowing you a few crucial moments to do something to get away.
A knee or front kick to the balls is also a great way to stop the would be attacker in his tracks, taking his offensive attack on you into a fetal position on the ground. Again, allowing you to do what you want.
If it is a drunken brawl, like one I got into recently with some guys, and there is no immediate threat to your life, and you want to have some fun, throw some heavy punches to the head, avoiding the face (for lawsuit purposes), keep your feet under you, and the bad guy(s) in front of you. Don’t be afraid to step backwards as they attack… this will make them (especially if they are drunk) lunge forward, removing a lot of balance, and putting you in the perfect position for a take down, a hip toss is very effective right here, or a simple sweep. If you want to stay up, off of the ground, an uppercut will be most effective when they are off balance. They will have a heavy head, and will be completely blindsided by a strong punch from out of sight. A roundhouse kick to the neck/side of the head would probably end the fight, and your knuckles won’t even be swollen.
If the fight goes to the ground -
GET ON TOP ASAP
If you can’t get on top cover your face, and keep attempting to get on top, or just get them off of you.
Once you are on top, take a look around, make sure his buddies aren’t going for a kick to the head, or tryig to grab you. The last thing you want is to be blindsided by a boot, or grabbed from behind, and immobilized.
While your ontop, if no one is breaking it up anytime soon, you can basically have your way with this guy. Keep a firm base to keep him down, pick your shots, and watch for him to be throwing flailing punches, at this point he is trying to hit anything and everything. He will also be trying to “hump” you off of him. As he thrusts his pelvis trying to throw you off, ride it like a rodeo cowboy, if you don’t, and lean forward to catch yourself with your hands, he will have a knuckle sandwich waiting for your face.
On top you have a lot of power. You can ground and pound, basically bringing the pain to his face using forearms, elbows, fists, hammers… whatever. if you want to cause some damage to this guy’s smile, this is the time to do it. If there are witnesses, DO NOT STAY ON TOP OF HIM!!! It is no longer self defense, it is you trying to kill someone. If no one is around, feel free to go with plan A.
If they have a weapon, but you are confident they can’t use it, or wouldn’t (like a bat, pipe, or small knife) they can be disarmed rather easily if they don’t know what they are doing. Chances are, they have a weapon, they are using it to scare you cause they don’t know how to use it. Disarm them, and pound the shit out of them for being a pussy.
Easiest ways to disarm -
If they don’t think you will be making any sudden movements, attack the weapon. A bat for example - loses 99% of its effectiveness if you are hanging on to the other end. The attacker will be concentrating on getting the bat out of your hands, you can concentrate on holding on to it, and attacking them with whatever you have available. Eventually their instinct will be to release the bat and defend themselves. Now you have the bat, and a sissy at the other end.
b. If it is a knife - DO NOT GRAB IT WITH YOUR HAND!!! Unless you have been properly trained on how to disarm an attacker with a knife, do not try to grab it like the bat, the bat will not cut you. If you are relatively flexible, and you know how to kick… now would be the time. Either kick his hand, if he has a relatively loose grip, or kick his body. In this case you either want to get the knife out of his hand, or make defense his primary concern. If he is armed, and has to worry about getting kicked again, he will probably not be concerned with stabbing you.
I have more great tips for anyone looking to defend themselves, but take what I have offered with great caution … if you are not physically able to defend yourself, if you are the attacker, or if you happen to stumble upon someone who knows what the fuck they are doing you can be seriously hurt.
I recommend running in all of the above cases. You never know how a fight will end. Someone could be leaving in a body bag.

That RNC will work, assuming he’s not a biter. Biting the fleshy part on the inside of the elbow is the only way I can see anyone getting out of that. (I think biting is a DQ move in most sanctioned fighting/wrestling leagues, which is probably why you probably overlooked this…)

A rear naked choke is…
stand behind opponent
wrap your strong arm (I’m right handed, and that is the one I use most often, but if your left is available, that will work too) around the throat of the dude infront of you. The advantage of using your bigger/stronger arm is the fact that when you start to squeeze, the mass of your bicep, along with your forearm and bicep coming together in a tight V creates the choke.
Grab the inside of your elbow on the other arm. (Grab the inside of your left elbow with your right hand.
Take your left hand and put it behind the head of the dude. AS LOW AS YOU CAN. The lower the better. If your arm is on the top of his head, he can reach up and pull it down. If I got your hand from on top of my head, you would be in an arm bar for like 1 second, after that, it would be broken.
Being over 6’ I usually have the height advantage over anyone who I am choking, so I like to arch my back, away from him, lifting his feet off of the ground. All of his weight is now supported by his neck, which is being supported by my arms, which are choking the fuck out of him.
If you are doing it right, they will not be able to talk, scream, breathe… or even put up a fight. If your grip is tight, there will be no fresh oxygen going to their brain, they will pass out, no matter how long they can hold their breath. When they do pass out… do not release right away. If they are faking it you will know in a couple seconds when they struggle again. If they are truely outcold, you will feel them go limp in your arms. set them down. Do your thing.

I do not place my head on the shoulder of the other guy. I keep my head behind theirs, constantly applying pressure to it so I know where it is.
If you keep your forehead against the back of their neck
-they can’t headbutt you in the nose.
-they can’t gouge your eyes
-they can’t pull your hair (not like a girl pulls hairs. There are hairs on your head that are much more painful when pulled that the top of your scalp. If a dude grabs them, you will yelp and cry)
They also can’t grab your ears… this can also be very painful.
If your head is on their shoulder, they know where it is, so does their fist or finger. If I was being choked I would attempt the most painful maneuver possible to get out as fast as I could. Going for the eyes would be very helpful at this time. A thumb into the eye of the guy choking you will 90% of the time get him off of you, or loosen his grip so you can reposition your jaw to breathe freely, sometimes without them knowing. If you can breathe freely, and they don’t know… that is where the faking comes in… depends on what you want to do.
Do not leave your face exposed when your arms are occupied, EVER!!! You will lose an eye.
If they are attempting to get access to your face, squeeze harder. shake them back and forth … anything to get their attention away from your face, and or releasing your hold.
Chances are they are going to grab onto your right forearm and try to pull down. This will not work if you are locked on. Your arm will be able to hold rediculous amounts of weight when it is locked with your other arm. If you lose the lock, you might be in trouble, move on to another move before he catches his breath.
The sweatier your opponent or you are… the harder is it to maintain this hold… or even get it in the first place. If you are sweaty, take it to the ground, try to choke with the legs. The brute strength of your legs will overcome the slipperyness of your upper body.
UFC tactics doesn’t always apply to street fighting because there are no rules in street fighting - Ex) if your opponent is trying to mount you in a street fight, your not going to apply full guard by wrapping your legs around him because you may get knee’d in your balls. If you are on the bottom of attack, then you have to go for his balls or throat. The average street fight lasts less than 30 seconds. You usually won’t have enough time to think about applying a rear-naked choke, or worry about your oppenents buddies jumping in (there’s only so much you can do). If you have good stand-up, and can guard yourself from a take down, then that is your best bet. Never put your head down! If you put your head down you are going to lose. I boxed for a little over 4 years . . . try Casal’s gym in NF if you want to get involved with a good boxing program.

what I was saying is that I have an extremely high tolerance for pain, including I’ve also had 32 stitches in my sack before and yes i’ve been kicked in the nuts before it wouldn’t stop me. If you hit me in the eye i’m still going to be able to see you as I have another one, also once you see blood thats when pure rage kicks in and if you know how to control it chances are it will work to your advantage. As far as the throat part, you hit anyone hard enough in the throat it’s going to collapse their trachea and once again chances are your not trying to kill the other person just defend yoursef.

BTW I’m not a fighter anymore for the most part, and would walk away 99% of the time thats the best advice that I have to anyone. If it comes down to life or death situation well that’s a different story but lets just hope for the best here.
