I use OReily books but my company that I contract through teaches courses. Actually, he is like a best friend and an ex-coworker and he teachers their Crystal so I got a nice connection.
ok, well then you guys have 6 months to get some procedures in place :nod
nope. I don’t like reading and never took any classes. You will learn it extremely fast just by playing around with it. If you know SQL or any other programming language then it should be SUPER easy. It’s just the different syntax that’ll piss you off for awhile.
anything I wasn’t sure about I would just use the Help feature or search the web.
Hows the pricing on those courses? I’m interested in taking one over winter break (if available)
Yes, the syntax is very frustrating. That and that these needed to be done ‘yesterday.’
Getting the data will be easy. Getting used to ALL of the ways to manipulate the data within the report is where it takes time and probably no book can teach you. If you are a developer, the WYSIWYG will be easy. To be honest, it’s very user friendly. The do-das and shit take time.
…try and get your work to pay for it
Probably shitty. I’ll look into it. It’s in Albany though. The company blows but my buddy is VERY good at what he does. I think they might just offer an intro course now. If they do, stay away as it will be very easy for you. The course is geared towards stateworkers. My buddy just happens to be very good.
I agree.
There MUST be Crystal Report communities in NY. I go to a lot of SharePoint stuff in Albany/NYC to learn.
I can come back to Albany for a bit over winter break. Its hard enough getting this place to pay me well. I highly doubt they will pay for me to take a course since they don’t plan on keeping me (and I don’t plan on staying).
I’ll talk to him. You are learning right by what you are doing. Just takes time.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
N I know, I tought myself basic programming logic back in highschool. I really just would like to be shown the ins and outs. I understand the logic and how things work just fine, I just can’t get Crystal Reports to do what I want. (all these experts can be pretty useless at times)
Ef-it. For now I’m writing them in C#. For me it’ll be easier to pump out the graphics code to get the stupid things to print than to fiddle with this. :headbang
C# FTMFW
You know it! :tong
