Well we are looking to get a wood furnace. I was originally looking at a big ass outdoor one where I could run the water system through. Heat hot water and heat our pool along with the house. BUT I would have to gut our furnace to put a heat exchanger in. If the fire went out I’d be screwed.
I see they make ones that I can tap right into my current system and it will blow hot air/ if the fire goes out the furnace kicks on.
Anyone have any experience with these??
what make/ model do you suggest?
i had one where i used to live out in the boonies, worked awesome, just sucked going outside to put wood in when it was cold as shit. i have no clue what make or model it was but i do know house insurance companies like them a lot better then indoor wood furnaces
I was just at the steam show and totally forgot the make. They are there every year and are exactly what I want. HOTTEST shower I have ever taken.
I’ll post up when I get home.
I was looking at the claytons at central tractor. They won’t heat the water system though.
FYI I live in the sticks lol
In my parents house we have a woodstove and the gas furnace that both run through the same ducting in the basement. There is a motor that is hooked up to butterfly valves over both of them and when the gas furnace is off, it is open for the wood stove and closed for the gas. If the fire goes out during the day, like when people are at work and it even just gets real low, the gas furnace will kick on (the thermostat is set pretty low, like lower 60’s) which runs the motor, so it opens/closes what it needs and runs just enough to keep the house decent until someone gets home. It works well.
