Yeah I think it makes sense in a way. Most apple consumers are buying an apple product because it’s an apple product. They don’t know why it’s good, how it’s good, all they know is their friends and family have them, it’s expensive, and it’s made by Apple. I’m not lumping all users in there, because there are definitely Apple power users. My parents even though they have 35/35 FiOS internet, still use the AOL desktop client for browsing the internet. I’ve tried pushing browsers on them and they won’t listen.
I dunno. I hate their marketing/culture crap as much as anyone, but they make some really good shit.
This. I absolutely hate going to the apple store because the level of douche there is way over my tolerance levels, but my iPhone just works. Be it as a phone, tomtom GPS, video streamer when we were in outer banks or back woods GPS snowmobiling. People really need to get over their whole “but I hate the company” thing. Brand loyalty is for idiots.

Even from a social point of view the reason people use computers like they do today is because of AOL.

You’re missing the point. Its quite simple really. AOL dumbed down connecting to and browsing the web. Apple/iPhone dumbed down smart phones for the masses. Both easy to use for the lazy and/or intellectually challenged.
