Fuck me running thats a lot of dimp
Hugeeeee win for apple to go after EVERYONE now.
Saw this friday but the trial was more about how samsung products looked like the iphone and not so much android, I cant really see how they will be going after everyone any different than they already were
Ughh Apple is such a fggt.
Or you can look at it this way…
Samsung deserves exactly what it got.
It’s a pretty easy case when you show the jury the memo from Samsung CEO talking about how much better Apple’s devices were and how Samsung needed to make devices “more like the iPhone”. Then you show them this post memo picture illustrating where Samsung decided to go with it’s “design” and rest your case.
I’m all for competition and avoiding monopolies but you can’t blatantly copy/paste a competitors product because you have no talented designers of your own.
Yeah, if you go by the pictures…I guess they look the same. The operating systems, the way they function, etc. is all different. All cars look pretty much the same right? 4 wheels, steering wheel? Bring on the lawsuits. Ultimately I think this is Apple killing technological innovation. All these lawsuits are horseshit and a half.
Nice one-sided argument. It completely ignores ALL of the prior art. Which the jury decided to ignore.
Regardless of the similarities in the design, there are some issues with the case. Namely, the compexity of the case and all of the patent nuances, and the fact that the jury somehow waded through all of that bullshit in 2 days. They were lazy and they wanted out.
Personally, I think that it’s bullshit that things like “slide to unlock” and “pinch to zoon” are patentable.
The fact that the phones looks similar, as a basis for a BILLION dollar settlement is silly. Look at all of the flip phones that were on the market the past 10 years. Hardly any of them were distinguishable. Look at all the laptops on the market, 90% have almost identical form factors. That’s nothing new.
I don’t have much sympathy for Apple. They are among the most profitable companies in the world.
I have been following this case. There was a lot of evidence from other big companies like Best Buy where consumers were returning Samsung products because they were under the impression they were Apple. I know for most of our generation, you think “What an idiot” but for the general consumer who sees a friends iPad or iPhone and wants to buy one, they look pretty close so I guess its a fine line between improving a design or really building something that piggy backs another success.
Either way, Apple just got 1 billion to add to their current 100 billion dollars in cash.
so what you are saying is that “Samsung” in big letters on the phone is not enough of a hint that its not an apple device?
also wouldn’t that be more of Best Buy’s fault for not helping the customer correctly?
Apple and Samsung couldn’t care less about the billion dollar verdict. Samsung’s stock drop as a result of the lawsuit cost them 12 billion in company valuation by comparison. Even that’s not a huge deal.
The real “cost” is what may come next, when Apple files to ban the sale of infringing products. Samsung will most likely get a stay against that order as the appeals process continues though.
And that’s the sad state of patent law. You can copy something almost exactly, have a jury agree you copied it, then drag it out in appeals for so long that the tech you’re arguing about isn’t even relevant anymore by the time the appeals process is exhausted.
When I was a kid all telephones looked exactly the same no matter who made them and no one sued. lol
Oh and thanks for the ipad and free data plan Jeff.

Apple
#3
Fortune 500 rank: 17
2011 profit: $25.9 billionWhen it comes to profits, Apple continues to blow all other tech companies out of the water. The company raked in just under $26 billion in profits in 2011, an 85% jump from the previous year.
IPad and related product sales reached $20.4 billion in 2011, a staggering 311% increase from the previous year’s results.
Published May of this year… #3, and the list includes a “who’s-who” of tech, oil, and banking among others. Add a big “B” to their net worth, apparently.
There were, however, a few sales setbacks to what was otherwise a great year for the company. IPod net sales decreased by $821 million, or 10%, during 2011 compared to the previous year.
I’d be willing to bet the iPad and the iPhone ate into the iPod’s sales as well.
Patent Law is in pathetic shape. It sure does make a lot of money for some lawyers though. I wonder how much it costs taxpayers…
Yeah, the patents now-a-days that are granted are absurd. Soon pressing a button on a phone causing an action will be patented and we’ll be in lawsuit hell.
Apple…meh.
Thought I had an Apple phone all this time. Turns out it says Motorola at the top. Come on.
…said no one ever
Yeah that equates to user stupidity. That’s essentially what we cater to now. Users that are dumb as a fucking brick. I do not envy Jeff at all. The tech retail business must be absolute punishment on a brain.
we had one tech support call at my work from a guy that had an iphone and he was having trouble installing our application, we told him go to the app store and re-download it and he had no idea the phone had an app store on it…
Apple…technology for idiots. I’m guessing they picked a jury full of 18 year old girls and mouth breathers. I hope they get theirs. This was going to get appealed either way so no big deal here, but still annoying.
I can’t believe their “we will steal blatantly and then claim it’s worth nothing, but every miniscule detail of ours that is copied is worth billions” strategy worked this round.
