Did Apple Screw the Pooch?

… this time around?

I haven’t read one positive thing about yesterday’s announcement. Hell, even big Apple blog sites are having to look for new revenue streams because of Apple’s new ad blocking.

Some funny stuff did come out of it though:

“Apple fanboy” Cartoonist predicts the keyboard in 2012:

So when Apple finally puts a keyboard in a Smart Cover, don’t be surprised.

Watch their stock price?

You have to understand that in 2007 that “smart phones” were things like this those huge slide out windows phones lol I don’t have any need for it but some of the apps they demoed could be useful seems like the ipad pro is going into that laptop replacement market.

I don’t know, I think the iPad Pro with Pencil will be popular with designers and artists, but I don’t see many run-of-the-mill consumers being interested. It’s VERY expensive especially with the pencil and keyboard.

AppleTV looks awesome, but it’s definitely more expensive than competitors. I’ll probably get one, you know it will have the best apps available.

iPhone looks like a solid update as is typical for S-cycle devices. I’m on the S-cycle and will definitely be getting one.

I’m still not a fan of the AppleWatch. They showed some cool stuff, but for the price I’m going to continue wearing a swiss auto.

It’s about product ecosystems and not specific products which is why everything Microsoft keeps trying fails…

Phones, Microsoft band, tablets, etc

AppleTV isn’t 4k and there isn’t any 4K content on iTunes. Netflix has had 4K content for at least a year now.

iPhone finally has a 12mp camera and 4K video so that’s nice, but don’t try viewing them in full resolution with your AppleTV…

True, but yesterday was mostly about specific product announcements. Were there any ecosystem announcements yesterday that were impressive?

Parts of the Apple ecosystem suck, though. I don’t know anyone that uses iCloud apps. Apple Maps sucks. Apple Music sucks. iCloud email isn’t very popular either.

It’s all about reputation and apps. Apple doesn’t have anything out right now that’s particularly unique in any way. They just have DEVICES that are better than competitor’s devices. And they have third party developers that are heavily investing in iOS, which makes their apps the best.

Apple really needs to just stop trying to crank out services and continue to focus on devices that they do well.

I don’t get hung up on every press release/product release they do it’s obvious that every phone model now will come with S update that includes ram/camera/etc.

If someone comes out with a better whole product experience/quality product I would switch from my iPhone, iPad, and mac laptops but nobody has yet.

The things Apple does with engineering are actually amazing but people gloss over all that and go oh look at 12mp camera lol

Well said.

This. Nothing exciting with the 6s but no s release has ever been exciting. Force touch looks interesting but I’ll wait for the 7 before I replace my 6+.

Any of you watch Modern Family? I think the episode where they did the entire thing via Apple products sums up why Apple is successful more than anything any of us can post here. Apple didn’t invent many of the features their products use but better than anyone they wrap them all up in a cross-product ecosystem and make them so easy to use that everyone in the household can use them. Sure, you can do all the same stuff with Android or Windows but you better be an IT professional if you expect to get everything to work as seamlessly as it does in the Apple world.

The name of the episode was Connection Lost and it was well worth the watch.

I’ve had 4k on my LG G3 for about a year now. The only 4k videos I watch are the ones that came preloaded and sometimes Youtube vids. You really can’t tell the difference on that small of a screen.

I have pens that have rubber ends that can be used with tablets…gee, thanks for the pencil Apple…

Let’s just face reality…Android does a lot of things better than Apple ever will, but unfortunately, Apple re markets their stuff, better than Windows, Android, etc… ever will.

Most people would rather buy a phone knowing that it could do everything rather than learn how to make their phone do that.

I know how to stream TV and download it to my computer for virtually free, but here I am sending out $200 a month for TV and internet because it’s just easier to come home after work, turn on my receiver and watch my DVR’d shows.

Not looking to argue over this I was just curious what you think is better?

I had a Android and Windows phone last year and returned to iPhone

I don’t think Windows does things better than Apple, but it’s certainly not terrible. SkyDrive, Office, etc. are all seamless between my phone, desktop and laptop. All the programs (or “apps” as the kids call them now) are there that I need.

I’ve been waiting for Apple to come out with a hardware or ecosystem advantage that pushes me to use their products but nothing has presented itself yet. At least nothing that I’m interested in enough to make a change.

The only thing I can see pushing me to Apple at this point would be if the Windows flagship phones turn to shit.

I really tried hard to love my Lumia 1020 there was 2-3 apps I use fairly often for work that were complete junk on Windows mobile :frowning:

The camera, battery, and phone were amazing but apps :tif:

The way I see it, Apple products are generally more along the lines of a fashion statement as well as to those that like close-looped systems. For those of us who grew up building computers and want maximum control and flexibility when getting a product, Apple is a horrid way to go. The reason why I would never buy an iMac. In terms of engineering, at this point, nothing that it does really sets it apart from the load of smart phones out there. Before the iPhone, there was the HP IPAQ which I had. Apple figured out a way to make it popular.

Probably a bad analogy but it’s like buying a BMW or Mercedes(with some exceptions ie S class) right now. Below a certain price point, there is nothing inherently special about them. They carry prestige with them, but in no way are they the best or highest performing cars out there. The whole “Ultimate Driving Machine” makes me laugh. The thing is, even to many members on this forum, driving a European car is somehow seen as much more appealing and worth complimenting. Aside from that, these cars are generally marketed to people who wouldn’t sit there on a weekend and try to modify it.

To make a point, the early iterations of the X3s and X5s were seen as such a status symbol, especially in the Slavic community of Buffalo. I tried several and thought they were complete crap! The suspension was made of wood, it did not feel like driving an expensive vehicle aside from other things.

I love my iPhone BECAUSE it’s a closed system and just works. My full time job is designing and writing software so the last thing I want is a phone, laptop and tablet that I have to come home and read nerd blogs about which video chat app is the one that works out of the 200 shitty ones on googles unsupervisored play store because my kid wants to FaceTime her cousin in NC. My 8 year old hits FaceTime on the iPad, clicks her cousins name, and it just works.

Or I’m sitting here surfing on the iPad and I get a call on my cell that’s charging across the room. With NO setup at all the call just magically rings simultaneously on my wifi only iPad and I can take the call. I can only imagine the hours of bullshit and 3rd party app fuckery to make that work on android.

And let’s not even get into the whole fragmentation issue with the android OS since they let every carrier bastardize it then fail to issue updates.

That’s one thing I mentioned that draws people to it. That aspect of it is also like console gaming vs. PC gaming (except for the pricing and vid quality). You get your XBox or Playstation and know that every game out for it will work.

It’s not something I’m personally into and for all the things I need out of it, my Galaxy S5 is perfectly fine and I don’t ever see a reason why I would need anything else. Then again, I’m heavy into building the computers etc.

I’d also like to say it has to do with your lifestyle. I only use my Galaxy Tab in school or on the road for work. At home I’m on my PC or if I need a quick lookup, it’s my phone. Instead of FaceTime we use Skype. It also becomes an issue of what apps you feel like you need to use, can’t be without. Skype gets done for me what I want perfectly, I wouldn’t need a FaceTime etc.

It depends on how I’m going to use it.

If I’m going to throw a video up on my AppleTV, I prefer my ipad/iphone. If I want to take pictures, download music, or just use my phone in general, I prefer my Android.

I really don’t use my phone for much anymore since I have an ipad and now that I don’t have wifi at work, I hardly use anything anymore.

I use my old iphones for screens/shift lights in my race sim and they work great lol

Wacom makes far better products for digital artists and designers than an iPad Pro etc and they have experience in this market segment. Before the first iPad came out, they had a “tablet pc”

Isn’t there already an ios versus android thread? Maybe I’ll just get one of each, you guys aren’t helping me decide here.
