Damn 210 and under? That’s a big range, but I’m not familiar with arm wrestling weight classes at all, I’m 155 and I used to love doing this in high school for cookies during lunch.
All I can say to guys who are afraid of losing or embarrassing themselves is to just do it. There is no pressure. None of us are pros. We are just having fun. Last time was a blast! Every one of us would get destroyed at a regular competition. I’m trying to get 3 of my friends who have never done it before to go. An added benefit is that you’ll find out if you are a “natural” at it. It’s one of the few strength sports out there where you see 2 guys going to the table and you honestly have no idea who is going to win just by looking at the physiques. A 150lb pro arm wrestler that looks like a string bean will destroy a 225lb bodybuilder that can bench 400lbs. It happens all the time.
Here’s an example. Devon Larratt 230lbs going against a strongman competitor over 400lbs.
I did good! I won my weight class under 210 heavyweight. Right-hand and left-hand. Yes it’s quite a broad range of weight but the attendance just isn’t there to justify making any more classes. I went up against Dakota who is roughly 185 and I’m 200.
Now I have a plate, 7 screws, 3 lag bolts along with 26 staples.
FWIW, there was very little pain. I thought for sure the ride to the hospital was going to be brutal, and that massive pain was going to set in. Nope, not at all. Pain was maybe a 1 on a scale of 0-10. After surgery the nausea was brutal and I took a pain pill anticipating the nerve blocking meds to wear off, and for surgery pain to set in. Again, nothing happened. I just take 600-800mgs of ibuprophen for swelling every 8 hours. They prescribed me all sorts of shit, and I refuse to take it. Haven’t even filled the one for Narco.
The only bad thing so far is now I have very limited movement of my hand. Before surgery I had full movement. Now, I cant straighten my fingers or bend my wrist up. The Doc said there is a radial nerve that runs right along the bone and ANY trauma can cause it to get “sleepy” (his words). He said he was super careful around it, so hopefully it just wakes up in the next few weeks. Right now my arm is just sore from like a hard workout the day before. If my hand was 100% I have no doubt I would be fishing and doing light gym stuff in a week.
