Asthma V. Diesel truck??

Alright here’s the story.
I put my new truck (93 f-350 7.3 diesel) on the road about 2 weeks ago, on a Wednesday about Friday I started having trouble breathing. Like my asthma was acting up. i figured it was from some stupid air fresher my girl friends mom used.
Well its been about a week and a half, and I still having trouble breathing.
The doctor wants me to get a chest x ray because they don’t have a clue. I’m already up to 37 x rays for the year I’m trying to lay off. lol Actually I haven’t made it yet.
All farm equipment I use is diesel, but its also open cab.

My question is. Has anyone had trouble with diesel exhaust bothering there asthma?

All of the old Diesels had minimal regulations on what comes out of the exhaust such as Soot, NOx, etc. The soot could easily cause problems with breathing, you could add some new technology (DPF) to the truck and that would help with the particulates. I’d check for an exhaust leak in the engine bay and if it has one, change the cabin filter.

The exhaust is mint and I don’t see any leaks. The truck is a cream color and it definitely turns the rear corner of the truck black in a day,

asthma can be triggered by anything, it’s pretty much dependent on the person… so yes, you could very well be having a problem from the fumes.

Definitely change that cabin filter.

ive had some trucks and equipment that could def make your eyes water, so yeah, i would say its def possible

Should have bought a veggie burner … lol.

I highly doubt your diesel fumes are causing it, based on your experience on the farm. The closed cabin of the truck should let in fewer fumes than being exposed to them directly.

You may have something else in the cab of the truck that you’re reacting to. Vacuum under the seats and the seats themselves.

my father had troubles in one company truck, try to change your cabin filter to a charcoal one vs the cheap vato-zone junk. switch to another car for a few days, or trade with a friend for an experiment and see if your breathing improves.

This. Give the interior a THROUGH cleaning. Taking a carpet shampooer to the seats/carpet would probably be a good idea too.

I dug the 67 out of the barn and drove that today. Its better but its still noticeable. It could be a small combination of things.

I’m with this guy.

Could be a wierd mold in the cab as well.

The truck was pretty much set up for it but he cut me a deal without it. :banghead:

I used to breath like shit after driving the work trucks at my old job (new Toyotas). I figured out it was the seats- a crappy bench that didn’t recline and forced me to sit straight up and down. I always recline my car seats way back. I started driving the one with buckets that reclined, and no more problems. I also have a problem with my riding lawnmower seat. No issues with a few of my other cars with non-reclining seats, so it must just be the design. I don’t know if I’m just nuts, but I think certain seating positions put pressure on me causing me to not breathe properly.

I’m not pro on the OBS (old body style) trucks… but in 1993, did anything come with cabin filters? lol.

I dont think so Jack. i’m going to make work deatil it when the boss leaves one day. I know the truck wasn’t used much after the new trans due to the fact that the window motors we seized lol I worked them free and the drivers side works fine. Thats a hint lol
