So I remembered your pretty good with lets say redhat… so anyways… Im running kernel 2.6.14-1.1653_FC4, and udev-058-1.0.FC4. pretty much just fedora core 4… now I got this new mp3 player a samsung yp-t7j… and for some god unknown reason it wont goddamn fucking automatically mount to dev by just plugging it in like a usual usb drive would do…
so I checked my var/log/messages… I got this when I plugged it in…
Jan 02 08:30:05 localhost kernel: usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
Jan 02 08:30:31 localhost kernel: usb 1-6: USB disconnect, address 5
I can see it with lsusb: but still cant mount it…
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 04e8:5047 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
tried mounting it myself… still nothign wont work it connects then disconects… ?
heres what pops up in when I put it in… /proc/bus/usb/devices
^^ Ugh… not going to work… already yum’d all the lib files for mtp… a single program like amarok is not going to work. Stick working for the cell phone company.
tonight on aim while you giving me the schmeider treatment I had to block you… I wanted guldge my eyes out just listening to you it made me so goddamn anoiyed… and the people who know me on this board know I can honestly withstand alot of shit. If you had to google it or do not have first hand experience dont post about…also look at the subject of the thread.
Linux for beginners maybe? since you can’t seem to mouth a usb device? And like i said…lets not talk about first hand experience Mr. I don’t know what a sparc-II processor is. If you can’t take my shit then you can’t take shit at all:blue: going to sleep and never checking this thread again so don’t bother flaming…i won’t be wasting my life feeding in for once
i have limited knowledge of mp3 players in linux… i only really use usb transport for disks and lower level communications… so if i can’t help, have your boy xlogic build you a new os.
so i guess you aren’t even getting it to mount? mount |grep -i usb comes back with what? usually you’ll get a usbdevfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs
if it’s a disk device (connecting as mass storage, attempting to mount to /dev/sda?) then you can use the scsi_info command… then you could fdisk -l it to see which /dev/ file it was mapping too… maybe insert the static mapping into /etc/fstab file?
does that build revision have usbview?
usbmgr command will load and unload the kernal modules for usb devices… maybe the kernal config doesn’t have usb support option selected or compiled? i’m not sure about that distro, but you may need to edit the rc config file… usbmgr.conf and load.conf (i think) will load and unload modules and include the kernal modules to load at startup…
maybe i’m off base and you’re not even getting that far… so maybe it’s a scsi device id problem? it’s odd that it’s automatically dumping after a few seconds of being plugged in…
I was so totally typing almost the exact same paragraph, and i was like, hmm maybe ill check the thread before i post this, so i copy’d it and read up, and to my amazement, it was word for word my post. lol
whatever how the shit do any of you even understand what all that “dev” and usbmng means? lol
i swear i was reading that thinking it was a different language
but running a very hot power supply in a metal case makes so much sense… (as I type this from my macbook pro, nearly burning a hole through my right leg)
sorry I don’t have any more linux tricks to add. you guys hit everything I would have tried.
