Attn: HVAC people

My AC at home is driving me nuts. I come home from work, the temp. is 77, so I set the thermosat to 72. Many hours later when I’m ready for bed I check the thermosat, and its reading 74-75. Damn thing never shuts off all night, and only gets to 74-75.

So I get a service guy to come out today and check things out. No problems, its just hotter this year he says. WTF is that?

oneslowbowtie is the hvac guy

Do you have any condensation on the lines running to the furnace or around the furnace? I assume and would hope that he checked to make sure it didn’t need charged. When it needs charged, it can freeze up and no air passes through. Is there air blowing from the registers?

mine’s been running non stop as well. i think its just cause its been really hot the last few days

i don’t know much about HVAC stuff but i think its recommended to get your cooling equipment inspected each year by a technician to make sure its running efficiently.

You might also want to check if you can adjust the airflow to the house. We swap ours w/ the seasons, winter we direct more heat downstairs b/c heat rises, and then in the summer we direct more air upstairs b/c cold air sinks…but ours has been on almost non stop for the last few days too b/c it’s so friggin hot…

I do the same…makes a big difference in an old two story!

Also remember (if you have them) to open the upper and close the lower air returns in each room for the summer (and reverse in the winter).

yea, the guy checked the unit for freon, it was fine. then he took all kinds of shit out inside and cleaned it, all was fine. air going upstairs was 50 degress, air returning was 74. the guy said 16-20 difference is normal. he couldnt explain why mine was higher than normal. his suggestion…go buy a window-mount a/c unit for the bedroom. wtf is that all about?

like i told him…i never had this problem the previous summers.

if it is, you better go catch it!!!

I do HVAC for a living… How old is the A/C unit and the furnace? Typically the upstairs is hotter 1) because heat rises and 2) b/c the thermostat is on the 1st floor, and all the ac wants to do is satisfy the thermostat.

74 or 75 is NOT working properly… you should be able to get a properly functioning and sized unit to cool to 70 -72 degrees at the thermostat location.

PM me or hit me back here and I’ll do what I can to help.

my ac was at 65 when I got home today… had to open some windows cause it was so cold. :kekegay:
