Why is it 80 degrees in my apt.?

So here’s my deal… usually during the summer/anytime it’s warm out my apartment is between 74-82 degrees…and I have no idea why. I live in a building that is condo’s with the exception of the very few that are rented out. Mine is partially underground, so my windows on one side are ground level, however they are “normal” on the other side (my building is a U-Shape…the ground level side is on the parking lot, the regular ones are on the pool side) Last summer we just kept the A/C on pretty much 24/7 - but now that it’s spring, it would be nice to just keep the windows open.

Right now its 60 outside, 75 in here. I’m the last one on this side of the building, so on my right is nothing and to the left of me is an area designated for storage for residents - I asked the maintenance guy here and he didn’t think there was any reason for it to be so warm, and he would “check a few things out”. When I asked the lady I rent from, she just said thats always how its been. It isn’t like this 24/7 so I’m not sure what the problem would be. The thermostat is old school looking, but works well. In the winter it kept it at 70 no problem. I also thought that since my apt. is technically half “under ground” that should keep it pretty cool all the time?

Any ideas? I appreciate any help at all. Thanks in advance!

Is the furnace dedicated to your space or is it shared? Any “mechanical” rooms near you?

what type of heating? forced air, hot water, steam?

Not necessarily. Ground temperature generally increases the lower you go, and isn’t effected as quickly by surface temperatures, if at all. It’s probably acting as an insulator and keeping heat in your apartment.

that thermostat looks from the brady bunch era. can you replaceit yourself or does management have to?

Is it hotwater heat?
