ATTN Stage 2 clutch owners

Everytime i shift in to a new gear the car seems to clunk (i know its a weak sauce description but there is a definate upset in the car) it only does it when i pull the clutch out to engage a new gear. Its not a grinding or slipping noise it kinda sounds/ feels like somehthing is loose and when i shift into the new gear it upsets the balance. It does not do it under braking/downshifting it only does it on acceleration. Now i also have an upgrade Cusco diff in the car aswell.

Is it possible this is the way the stage 2 clutch and diff work together and im just not used to it or is there someting wrong?

I have a 2way diff as well, and it sometimes gives a little clunk with a little shake to go with it when I shift. not something that happens alot, but sometimes. I don’t know if it’s normal, but everyone says 2way diffs are noisy and grab somewhat violently, shaking the car a little sometimes. but at least your not alone!!

Mine gives a big clunk when I am really coming on to it and slaming the gears but thats just because the clutch doesnt slip at all.

can you tell if the clunk is coming from the rear? i know i have a locking diff, no idea what brand etc, havent pulled the case apart yet, but it clunks every time in 1st and 2nd.

Just learn how to rev match your gears…a 2way diff will only clunk if your “jarring” it, so just match the revs and it wont do it (mine will clunk if i dont shift smoothly).

^Werd. It’s quite likely it’s the diff. I have a 2-way and I just recently put in a new, very grabby clutch and I’m noticing that when I shift hard and also through slight bends the diff will clunk.

B-Wurm

Im positive its coming from the rear end. I got underneath the car and moved the drive shaft back and forth and the same type of noise was coming from the pumpkin. After searching and searching on the net i pretty certain its just normal operation. I also heard that changing the fluid will help, so i will try that.

Also Canadian Skyline is right if i rev match it doesn’t do it as bad.

it’s true that changing the fluid can help. it worked for me, made it ALOT quiter. still makes noise, but not as bad.
I have heard that some diffs don’t like synthetic oils, some really like the thick dyno stuff. while others like the synthetic stuff, and some like it thick, some a little lighter. The best thing would be to find out what kind of diff you got, but if that’s gonna be too hard, then just try something! I tried amsoil heavy duty synthetic 75-90 i think, and it was real quiet for awhile and then it started to get a little louder, so I tried a diff additive, and it worked great. it must make the clutchs slip just a little more, because they don’t lock around slow corners as much, but still grab when I load them up. and stopped some of the rattle ect…anyway, hope some of that helps!
