Audiophiles: Bose 901 Series IV speakers

My dad has a set of Bose 901 Series IV speakers he wants to sell. They look like this;

It says right on the speaker they require the 901 series IV Active Equalizer. We do not have this equalizer, and the speakers sound distorted. Is this because we don’t have the eq?

my father has the same pair. He said they “need” the equalizer, but not sure if he actually knows what he’s talking about. Great speakers for classical and big band music, just no real bass for the modern stuff.

they look ancient… what are they worth?

<$200 if you include stands,

Not often you see Audiophiles and Bose in the same sentence

whatever, they’re vintage and noone who doesn’t give a shit about speakers will know anything about them

meh to vintage things… especially when i picture these to sound all crackly and distorted.

They sound shitty because you need the Eq for them. My dad has 901 Series VI and they sound good. Not great bass, but that’s why they make powered subs.

that was my first thought. no highs? no lows? must be Bose.

ok, just making sure the reason they sound weird is just because they need the eq

Aren’t these the ones with like 12 or so 3-1/2" drivers? I used to love those things back in the day, they sounded great.

jesus… no they have 8, and no…

thought they were bigger than 3 1/2"…

But yea, without the eq the sq will suck…
because… theyre all the same size speaker…?
with no crossover if i recall.

edit;
i actually had to check lol.
8x 5"

I just looked it up and it said the drivers were 4"
