Backfire POW ..screwed something up?

So I raced this guy last night and possibly pushed the car a bit to far trying to catch that rear wheel drive action in 1st gear(Corvette). As soon as I shifted from 1st to 2nd I backfired HARD w/ a HUGE cloud of black smoke. The car runs fine and all but when this happened it blew my breather on the valve cover right in half. Is this bad or just coincidence that I noticed it then?

lessons to be learned

  1. accords arent ment to be turbod
  2. accords shouldnt be racing vettes
  3. overpushing a motor is bad
  4. when racing a domestic and in the back dont try to catchup only bad things can happen to your import
  5. learn from mistakes above

but in all seriousness, sounds like compression in motor if you blew apart the breather. just listen for noises and keep eye on oil psi.

Have you retuned your car since the new Exh. bumped the Boost PSI?

1.)thats why I did it
2.)why not:? They aren’t the best cars ever…well not that generation anyways.
3.)aww fuck it…they are only $400 a pop and a build is underway soon.
4.)Wouldn’t be in the back if I could have had just a bit more traction from the line.
5.)Forever learning…
Hopefully there isn’t any dmg. I think if anything maybe a headgasket. I will do a compression check in the next week or so.

if its blowing the breather/ PCV valve off , it sounds like a case of blowby… but i :dunno:

thought blow by was when bottom crank gases mixed w/ combustion gases

6.big wing adds 20hp
7.little 240s can smoke domestic trucks
8.add vinyl decals to advertise your products
9.corvetts suck anyways, dont waist your gas

lesson learned

Don’t step to vettes

If you’ve removed your cat and/or exhaust guts you can expect some backfire when letting off the gas. I’ve experienced the same with many cars after “streamlining” the exhaust. However, if it is severe enough to blow off the breather, something else is going on OR you are running too rich to begin with.

Just my own $0.02.

i’m guessing it’s a coincidence… you had high oil pressure / pcv pressure and blew it out of the valve cover (common on boosted cars with improper PCV venting…

and 2. you shifted high and were rich as hell? catching fuel in the exhaust and igniting it… thus a backfire.

if your car isn’t stumbling around and feels fine, i bet it is… what is your pcv setup like?

stock pcv. The rubber line that went from the valve cover to the intake hose is diconnected, where a breather is in place on the valve cover

i don’t have a problem with vettes… :dunno:

  want a :cookie: ?

this is your probelm… vent the block and the head to a catch can… no more blowing lines off your valve cover.

well there were two lines hooked to the valve cover. One is the PCV and the other was a line feeding oil to the intake hose, the second one is where the breather is…maybe just not enough air…it was just a small 1.5" K&N look-a-like

yea vettes know a high 13/low 14 ride when they see one:hsdance:

didn’t you say no problem with cheeks car?

yes but youre not cheeks, now are you? now for vettes i can see a c4 with you for sure but a LS1 or LS2 nope unless bics was driving it

BTW…I justed noticed I didn’t even put I beat the vette 3 or 4 times, and actually pulled very nicely on him through 2nd and up …but said it in another post

As fas as an LS1/LS2 I think it would be close, but they would prob. be faster. I know I can just hang with a STI on a straight and a LS1/LS2 is faster than that.
