What would cause piston rings to be too wide for their respective piston grooves? Both companies parts numbers match up, hastings rings, srp pistons. I’m going to try to call the companies tomorrow to see what could be the matter… anyone ever heard of this before? I literally cannot get the top 2 rings to go into the grooves.
Its possible they put the wrong parts into a propely labeled box. Take the parts to a machine shop. Have them mic the rings and grooves and check the measurements against manufacturers spec. If they are off which im pretty sure they will be then you got the wrong parts anyway.
putting the wrong rings in the wrong groove??? :gotme:
no, top ring, which is thinner, has no groove and fits fine in my vitara pistons, and 2nd ring with groove fits fine in the vitaras as well, but not the srps. oil rings fit but are on the tight end of the tolerance measurement.
You have the wrong rings for the wrong application…sorry to be obvious.
SRP says they don’t make pistons ring gaps to match stock, they just make them, so I should have bought piston rings for my particular piston in a 75mm bore, not bought them for a d16z6. I guess it’s pretty shitty for me, because I should’ve asked, but I guess I didn’t think of it being a problem. Lucky for me though the gentlemen at SRP was extremely rude and talked down to me like I was stupid when I told him the situation.
