This is the moment a base jumper who leapt off a cliff had a miracle escape after his parachute opened backwards - and he FELL 1,000FT to the ground. Daredevil Matthew Gough, 25, was travelling around the world taking part in extreme sports when he decided to go base jumping in Lake Garda, Italy. His previous 180 leaps have gone perfectly - but this time his parachute opened backwards and became twisted. He briefly floated before smashing into rocks and hurtled down the cliff face at speeds of 40mph. During the incredible incident on Matthew, who has been base jumping for three years, filmed the whole fall on his headcam.

Sketchy ass ramp I built:
Installed. Had to clear a 10 foot ledge about 70 feet down which isn’t hard to do BUT this ramp makes it way “safer”. After the first guy took a PCA a few people freefell it. It was about 210 feet to a big tree below, so it was a spicy jump, but pretty awesome. Went well and the canopy flight was cool, landed on the golf course:

So I also learned a new trick out there at the bridge called a GAME OVER, which is basically an unpacked gainer. It’s pretty technical and definitely scary, especially during the part of the rotation where you’re face down and the canopy is blowing up around you.
So a local friend of mine and I scouted out this jump at Pillar Falls. It’s actually right across the canyon from where Evel Knevel had that shitshow “skycycle” jump. The remains of the dirt mound are still there. Anyway, this is a shot of the first person to (probably) ever parachute off this cliff. That’s me PCAing my friend Joey. I static lined it afterward…
And then a little later came back to freefall it. It was fucking scary. It’s just a hair under 200 feet to the rocks below, but a pretty long canopy flight over to the falls. The dude in the white shirt is holding the static line that I had used earlier. (That dude was way too gung-ho and thought he should try free-falling it with only 60 or 70 jumps… a terrible idea… the guys up top eventually talked him out of it… there are a lot of skills you need to have dialed first before doing shit like that)

The hike out took me over 2 hours (if you didn’t take the stupid boat - I like to WORK for my jumps, no one else did, ha!). On the way out you had to climb through this cave.

Late last night / this morning:
Police are looking for three people who parachuted off the roof of Trump Tower, the city’s second-highest skyscraper, shortly after midnight today.
The building stands 92 stories tall. The highest roof is about 1,200 feet off the ground.
Good work devoting the resources to finding the perpetrators of a crime in which no property was damaged and nothing was taken.
