Getting hit with a beer is not a life-threatening offense, therefore Artest deserves the year long suspension. It wasn’t like someone attempted to shoot him while he was laying on the scorer’s table. One of the negatives about being a professional athlete is all the publicity. Everyone knows what hes like and people tried to push him to see how far he would go, and they saw exactly how far he’d go.
Shalerpunk, your analogy is fucking horrible. Throwing a beer in a bartenders face, he knows exactly who did it, and can confront them right there… Artest had no idea who him with that beer, he just blew up and ran into the stands.
Artest should get a year, and Stephen Jackson should get a year. He went up into the stands after Artest and started slugging people before anyone even challeneged him or did anything to him. He should get a year.
Jermaine O’Neal I think is a good fine. He didn’t really go up into the stands, the only problem I had with him was slugging that fan that was being held there. But, once a fan steps onto the court, I think the players, officials, coaches, etc… should have the absolute right to whoop there ass. You have no idea what they could be thinking about doing when coming onto the court, thats self defense.
The world isn’t perfect, lets not pretend that it is… Artest got what he deserved, Jackson got less than he deserved, and O’Neal is fine.

basketball has a problem to begin with, the court is too close to the seats, they need a 10 foot cushion. how many times have people been hurt cause of players flying into the stands. maybe this doesn’t prevent what happend last friday but it would allow an area for security to stand.

I dont know if any of you remember (im sure Chad will), but there was a fan heckling Tie Domi when he was in the penalty box. the box broke, and the fan went falling right in with him. I think tie got a good shot in on him, and THAT is a situation where it was alright for him to fuck the guy up. Because it was self defense, to an extent. Charging 8 rows deep into the crowd and hitting the least intimidating guy in sight, on the other hand…

They showed the video last night on cnn from a different camera across the court. There was a guy in a white hat and blue shirt that threw it. When he got off the table and went after the little white guy he ran right past him and the guy pushed him into the little white guy. It looked like he was going to pull him off the little white guy then he started punching him in the face from behind him.
It was all over the news down here in Charlotte last night. The video they were showing made it very clear who threw it.

the players, esp. the pacers, should have thought ahead before they went crazy and got in trouble. they’re one of the better teams in the east, and now by the time they get o’neal back, they’re gonna have a losing record. but the east is so weak they’ll make the playoffs w/out artest anyways.
