Was it all mortar on the walls or was it the durarock backing board, because a damn near inch of mortar seems a bit excessive and not very cost effective.
Also if you plan on putting something behind the tiles on the wall i def would suggest using Hardibacker instead of the durarock backing. It costs a dollar or so more a sheet but is so much better to use and holds up to moisture alot better.
Today i just got finished laying floor tiles, and a wall of tiles at work for one of our depts.
I put in a fan/light combo. Went with the light b/c it’s nice to have a dim light for those 4am “i have to piss” wake ups and you don’t want that blinding light from your normal bathroom fixture.
Get a fan that pulls more than enough cfm’s for your bathroom size and still quiet. It’s worth the extra money. Mine was around $80.
Any reason you put a finished floor in 1st?
I’d also say use hardibacker, over durarock or the other lightweigh backers. Ive left a broken piece under water for 24hrs and it didn’t absorb any water, its badass. And get the best ceilein fan you can afford, If you need to compromise the budget do it for something you can upgrade later because you going to end up living with a piece of shit ceiling fan if get one now. And DO NOT buy any opened fixture/electrical units at HD/lowes. It’s already broke, or missing parts then. If there all open check it out in the store.
mines 60cfm, my bathroom is the same exact size as the one posted. i had to run quite a bit of vent hose so if it doesn’t work like i want i’ll get a bigger one.
Busted:( I will take some tonight…I pretty much went right from this project in the '55 Chevy project and totally neglected to take any pics of the finished project:tdown:
Tile work…I also added in a nook for bottles, I HATE, HATE, HATE not having a dedicated spot for this shit. I believe the company was called Braxton Bragg for those intersted in this bolt-on mod (~$50).
The old wood trim and window shade created issues with mold, and general embarrassment with how ugly it was. Replace with vinyl trim, caulking, and frosted window film. One year later and this is holding up great! Virtually zero maintenance:)
Looks real nice. I like the cubby holes for the bottles and other shit. Why didn’t you put a GFI back in there? Or is there one in there? I can’t tell from the pic.
All these bathroom remodels make me just want to go in and gut mine. But not having another bathroom to shower and shit makes the gf cranky.
Wow, other than the fact that mine is pink :uhh: your old design and mine are pretty much identical. The gutting starts on Monday
I’ll also post pictures.
GFCI is at an outlet under the sink, and the first outlet in the circuit…so any outlet from there on out will trip it. I put the outlet under the sink so I could plug my electric razor in without having it clutter up the sink:)
Yeah, this recipe is pretty standard…and buying from Lowes/Home Depot kindof killed any uniqueness. But, that’s what it takes for a low budget build, my house isn’t worth nearly enough to justify big bucks on a bathroom. Looking forward to your pics:tup:
