wow, I really like that brick wall behind the range.
If I were you, I would go with a faux brick backslpash and play off that look of the existing feature.

How about a stacked stone backsplash? A friend did one and it looks killer, and a lot different than the typical kitchen.
Call me when you are ready, I love doing tile work.
Yeah, congrats on the pickup
This sounds awesome…pics?
I worked for DeSpirit Mosaic & Marble for about 1.5 yrs. They were good when I worked there but then again I was a human CNC Water Jet armed with only a right angled grinder. Their prices maybe cheaper than others but only because they do a lot by hand. We did some pretty siq kitchens.
I haven’t cut granite yet but I do have the machine for the job. I would be curious to see what they charge for cutting. I can cut concrete too just so you know.
Thanks again guys now post some pics!
I shopped all over for my granite and Home Depot with a 10% coupon actually had exactly what I wanted at the best price by far. Jumped on the deal when they had the free stainless sink and free edge upgrade with it. I got lucky and my style was a group A though…their higher groups are real pricey
Solid Surfaces did my quartz counter in the kitchen. That is who Lowes contracts through. Great job, great pricing.
As for backsplash, we made a custom pattern using:

I read something in Buffalo Spree saying Granite is passe (Just relaying what I read.) but if you like them and it is your kitchen I say go for it.
I love my stainless steel countertops, but you are looking at $70/sq ft.
That is about 30% less than concrete but still seems expensive. How thick is the stainless?
16GA. 304 Stainless
specialtystainless.com Division of Eskay Metal Fabricating, which is local.
So a big part of the cost must be labor to form it, cut it, etc. Kind of like concrete I guess. The concrete itself is cheap.
$70/sqft? Holy hell that is expensive. I did granite for $39/sqft. Not in buffalo, though.
Different strokes for different folks.
Granite can range from about $35/sq ft to $300/sq ft.
yeah I know the range for granite is huge, but 2x the cost is a lot…I guess it all depends on how big your kitchen is and other factors as well. That was just my first reaction lol.
fyi, black will always look dusty and look like shit if you do not keep it 100% clean all the time. pretty much the same thing as a black car, but worse lol.

and i also agree with a stacked stone blacksplash, i just did one, they look awesome. it would especially look awesome because of the brick.
I have Black granite counters right now and do clean them often but I am strange like that anyhow so not a huge issue. I also do like stone backsplash but might do tin as well(I love the look of real tin in an old home).
As far as price I am looking for something unique and was expecting to go upward of $120ish sqft.
BED post some pics of some alternatives you think I should look at. I would agree in the sense that there are great counters outside of granite out there. I want something that is unique and not like what you see in everyones “updated” kitchen. Only some basic searches have led me to some of the more exotic looking granite.
If that’s your budget, I would go with concrete. There are so many ways to make it look awesome.
I certainty don’t want to go that high but that is were I am prepared to go for something I really like assuming I dont find something I really like at a cheaper price point.
I have looked around at some concrete stuff but honestly have yet to find any I love for this kitchen. Post some examples!
Also does anyone have any experience in any other solid materials that are unique and hold up well? I will be going to talk to some specialists that you guys have recommended next week so the more ideas the better.
