In an attempt to make it to Beaverun one last time last year, I adjusted my Koni reds in the rear of the car. When I pressed the button to adjust the passenger side one it empty its contents out of the shock. I am now in need of rear shocks for road course use. What would you recommend? I am thinking Koni Yellows. They are economical and ok performance. Is there a shock that really out performs another?
Many people run the 3rd gen Bilstein HD’s in the rear. In fact, I ran those my old LS1 Camaro.
What other mods do you have to the rear of the car including spring rate and any ride height adjustments? This has an influence on what is best.
…then again, if you have the $$$ the Koni DA’s would be good since you can independently adjust dampening and rebound. I have these on the rear of both of my 'birds but I am too stupid to know how to adjust them. I don’t touch 'em and have no idea where they are set to be honest.
The best advice I could give you would be to call Sam Strano Jr. at 814 849-3417 and have a conversation with him. While he does sell this stuff, he doesn’t steer you one way or another nor would he sell you something overpriced just to make a sale… The key here is to call him and talk to him. He knows his stuff. (Tell him I sent you)
Keith is right on about Sam. I spent at least an hour and a half talking with him about springs and shocks for my TA. He asks all the right questions, and gives an honest, unbiased answer.
Sorry I read your replies before and never responded. I was doing some research and I am just going to go with the Koni Yellows. However the question I have is there are two versions. Third gen version for 110 bux and 4th gen for 150. What are the differences? Are the 4th gen valved better, more updated design? Do they mount different between models?
As far as the differences in valving and desireability of one over the other is concerned, the best person to answer this would be Sam Strano. I know that he recommends the 3rd gen Bilstiens for 4th gens over the 4th gen Bilsteins but I am not sure what he would say (or why) about the Koni’s. For my driving, I can imagine them being all that different…
Call Sam.
I like my tokico illumina adjustables. real easy to set them up and i have enjoyed them so far… on the street they feel incredible but thats just my only experience.
Guys on thirdgen seem to love them too.
Thanks guys, I will talk to sam and look into the Tokico a little also.
Just spoke with Sam Strano, very nice guy!! The difference is the 4th gen are adjustable from inside the vehicle and do not have to be removed from the car like the 3rd gen shocks. Well worth the additional cash IMO. Thanks everyone for the help, Hopefully have the car moving again whenever the weather gets nice again!
