Best Sport Compact Platform?

I don’t think this has been mentioned, but if you’re thinking of going FWD, my old Sentra SE-R coupe was pretty fun to drive. And you could still swap in a turbo SR20 for some good power.

So, if 5K is the budget for the car, what is your modding budget? Is this going to be driven in the winter?

If your modding budget is 1-2k, I’d say get a 93 or older Mustang or a Miata. They’re both reliable and you can replace the whole drivetrain on either for a few thousand. The after market has been around for ever and will be for a long time.

Older mustang = the best hp/$, miata = best twisties/$.

If your modding budget is 5-6k and you need it for the winter, just buy an 04ish Evo or STi

you can find a turboed first gen neon for 3 grand that runs 12s, neons.org

But then you’re driving a neon…

Get a bike: 5k and you’ll never want to drive a shitty ass car ever again

AWD DSM will probably be cheapest, but I’ve always had a thing for a plain civic hatch making 300whp+. Plus fwd traction will suck

Good Luck!

thats funny, ive had a bike and although they are fast, id much rather have a car …

just something about being called an organ donor as a joke isnt so funny, let alone if it rains etc etc

I love imports.

But I have absolutely NO idea how anyone thinks civics and integras are cool.

I would DD one but never put money into one

decent looking car if you don’t hate boston green.

Wow I love that e36…I may be making a call…

I;ve seen and been in the car, it’s in awesome shape.

its more of a comfort thing for me, mods are cheap, great gas mileage, and cheap to make a 11-12 second car

i have yet to lose money on a honda/acura in the past 5 years (over 20 cars) but i can see your point, i just have a hard time switching brands when ive never had a problem with them and have only lost a couple races with cars that had alot more money into them

no one on here is smart enough to get a bike :bloated:

That is what I’m looking for, but by no means is it a steal.

If you want a fast cheap car, get an ugly ass camaro with a carb, or a mustang. Carbs seem like a pain but I guarantee it is way less of a hassle than a dsm. Or I say go for a SR20 S13, handling and speed for the price of a stock miata. If you can live with FWD get a SRT4, they are fucking cheap and reliable 13sec dd’s.

But you should get your life together instead of buying a “quick” car that will be a head ache, especially since you are dd’ing it. Swapped/modded cars are always a head ache.

Go to school, focus on school, get good grades, and maybe learn something too. Then hopefully someday you won’t be poor anymore.

like when you sbc s-10 got smoked by an n/a neon :thankyou:

ok, just reread the original post.

he wants reliability, 300hp, doesnt want to put internals in the motor, and all of his choices are FWD but one.

the easiest option is a 04+ (03 didnt have the quaife) SRT-4 with the Mopar Performance Stage 3 package. they typically dyno 350+ whp on high octane mode, are pretty darn reliable and run 11’s with ease. you can get an add on boost vs gear module to lower the boost in 1-2 on the street and some places offer a traction control setup.

that said, a E30 with basically turbociv’s setup swapped in would be NASTY fun.

you could also do a clean southern 95 and older impreza sedan with a WRX motor swap. 95 so you can run it on megasquirt and not have to deal with CEL’s. you could even use a later SOHC 2.5L motor and use STi pistons and rods. (cheap but fairly strong) not quite as much flow for the sohc heads but it would still be fun… youd break the stock impreza trans before you break the STi internals.

My life is together , and i never said i was dd’ing said car. i have a reliable dd with no mods. i just cant justify spending anymore than 5k on a fucking project car. I don’t see what the problem is with that. If i wanted a fast dd i would go buy a new sti/evo. but I’m not really feeling the car payment, and if i return to further my education i don’t want to have to worry about making enough money for the car note.

On the other hand i have been pondering my choices. Saw a dsm broken down yesterday it kind of turned me off to the idea of having one. And i do like the luxary of the vw, i can easily do a 1.8t with gt30 considering stock internals can take over 300hp.

But like many people have been saying get the bike… this has been something i really thought about. cbr600 no need to mod or waste money on anything. i am leaning towards this, and if i return to school the climate will be much better than around here

1G AWD DSM

on the side of the road loaded onto a tow truck…

and i cannot do an f-body, it is just not me and i cannot stand the styling, plus the whole American reliability thing.

A fox body i do like those alot.

And that bmw that carnut posted was tight, the thing i like about bm’s is the luxury and clean aspect, it just screams class
