Best way to clean cylinder head

still have the valves, cams, etc etc in it. Just looking to clean up the top of the valves and inside the ports a little bit. carb cleaner & towels?

“Clean” as is wipe off and clean the carbon buildup? … Or “clean” as in sand & shine up?

If just the carbon buildup I always use Brake Clean and rags.

You can clean up the deck with nice rotary broach machine. Clean the valve tops with a wire wheel. The valve faces can be cleaned with a nice valve grinding machine, while your at it you might as well clean the seats with a 3 angle bit and a seat and guide machine. The combustion chambers you and clean with a couple sanding drums to debur and polish.

clean up carbon. i wouldnt mind shining up the valves and combo chambers too. I know a wire wheel would be a big no no

I ran Seafoam at the beginning of the summer and it was pretty eye opening. That’s the “mechanic in a bottle” method, but it worked well for me.

the head is off the car
