Engine parts cleaning

Whats a good method for cleaning up an engine block/pistons and stuff? Just degreaser and alot of scrubbing with something non abrasive? I just took my short block appart and I want to clean it up a bit before I take it to get bored out.

I’m interested to see the specific products other people are using actually.

In for info…

theyre going to have to bake it before they machine it anyways.
No refutable machineshop will bore a block without cleaning and checking it first.

yeah I know they clean it first. I wanted to clean the pistons and shit up as well. The tops of the pistons are filthy, but the rod and sidewalls are like brand new.

you can use gasoline, or find someone with a parts washer.

get some gas proof containers and fill them w/ gas / kero / paint thinner or the like … then add the pistons and let them sit for a while

gasoline was used to do these:

Word thanks man.

Wait if your getting your engine bored out, you can’t reuse stock pistons anyways, if you plan on keeping your stock rods, you just gotta pay them to press the pistons off the rods and press the new pistons on. theyll clean and check the rods aswell before they will press new pistons on them

I ues kerosene to clean everything i do… there is a parts washer for sale at HF for 39.99 this week…

baking soda blast

I have a parts washer here but I dont think your block will fit in it
