Bike Crew - oil change/checkuo...

i bought my 2005 ex250 from my bro, who bought it brand new

i, very stupidly, did not check the suggested guidelines for service, and went 2000 miles already without an oil change

so with that, my question is this

  1. Hebelers (place he bought it from) has a $45 oil change, and a $125 “overall” package. Is that standard, or well bloated?

  2. any other places where i can do the overall package at a reduced monetary impact?

and, for when Rx3 reads this, wtf happened to WNYsportbikes?

why not just do it yourself? its super easy. and wnysportriders was hacked, it will be up in a few days.

What did the “overall” package consist of? Otherwise don’t pay $45 for an oil change. I’m not too familiar with dealers in the Buffalo area, but a dude I work with just bought a Honda VTX and I think he said he’d been working with Hebelers and was pleased. I’ll ask him when I get in this morning.

i imagine lubing the chain, fork lube, etc

im still a n00b

Well ask and find out. $125 for a complete tune up including spark plugs etc is not that bad at all.

$45 for an oil change is on the high side, but all bike maint. is more expensive than it would be on a car, specialty market.

It’s also very easy to do yourself. Just buy a filter and a few quarts of oil and go to town.

I would just do/get done whatever the owner’s manual suggests for your mileage. No need to change brand new fork oil, etc.

If you want to save money and learn a thing or two about your bike, do stuff yourself. It’s part of the fun of the sport.

Lubing a chain’s really easy, you just spray it with chain lube. Which is a good thing to do fairly regularly. Little tip: If you have a chain final drive you might want to consider always carrying a spare master link with you. It could easily turn “f**k I’m stranded” into “dammit, I gotta pop the chain back on” should anything go wrong.

Good choice for a first bike btw. I always cringe when I hear about someone buying an R6 or faster for their first bike. Sure, it can be done and a lot of people do it without killing themselves, but it’s just not a good idea to be able to get well into triple digits so easily when you don’t have a lot of experience. It’s nice to still see someone with enough sense to start on a small/cheap bike.

does the 250 have the integrated rear stand?

thats what i thought

dude told me i was supposed to bring it back at 600 miles, and i was like “wtf”

tks, maybe i will take a stab at doing it myself. still need to get the manual and such

and werd to the 250. Its too slow to do anything stupid on, and it stops on a dime

i believe so, if i think i know what a rear stand is

it has both the kick and rear stand
