I am apparently addicted to cars that no one wants. Does anyone else have this problem? Between my 82 LeCar, my 91 Festiva and the 92 Geo Storm I used to own, I feel like the only thing I’m missing is a Yugo (though there are 2 sharing my garage space).
The worst part is if you asked me which former car I’d like to have back, I wouldn’t say it’s my last EK Civic which was great, my Olds Cutty or even the 89 Celica hatch that was really the hotness if you ask me. I miss having my Geo Storm.
I still wish I would have driven it completely into the ground instead of selling it for $500 to save the whole $25 a month it cost in insurance.
Does anyone else see bastard children of the automobile world and feel compelled to lovingly care for them? Which unwanted, market-rejected car are you secretly in love with? Post a pic, misery loves company.
My girlfriend actually likes and wants an AMC Eagle wagon. The thing about the misfit cars is that they are always dirt cheap and you can always find parts
This is true to an extent, but honestly it gets a lot harder as time goes on.
Some misfit cars actually had a pretty high sales volume and/or related models that make it easier, but in other cases their misfit status means that it’s actually hard to find parts. This is absolutely true with my LeCar, I mean I can buy wheel bearings and the really common maintenance stuff, but good luck finding an ebrake cable, valve seals, etc.
It’s so out of the market that you also don’t get any swap options, I mean literally there are none. It’s FWD but it actually turns the motor around backwards and puts the driveshaft towards the front. None of the other cars that Renault had in the U.S. are really interchangeable with the LeCar’s parts. Right now my motor and trans are leaking all over. I actually found a NOS rebuild kit, but I’ve basically got the car sitting most of the time because it doesn’t seem worth it to rebuild it for the stock 70hp but if I want to swap something in I have to get it from Europe, so I just keep sitting here wondering what I should do.
