BMW 1 Series M

It seems like with a tune (I know it is not stock then) this thing would destroy an M3 on a test track with less weight and better aerodynamics. Hell maybe it would even match the much cheaper Mustang.

After more thinkingā€¦I still really like this car. My biggest gripe would be that they didnā€™t go with some high revving NA engineā€¦something that you really couldnā€™t pull any more power out without forced induction. To me, M cars arenā€™t turbo carsā€¦this feels more like a sport edition of the 135.

Wait, your complaint is that it has too much power potential with mods? :dunno:

But the next m3 will be a turbo car also.

Update with Ring times from Jalopnik. Results are less than stellar.

I think it is safe to assume that anyone who buys this car AND cares about Nurburgring times is going to buy a tune which would change the numbers enough I would think. Just sayin.

Valid point. That being said, I expected a bit more out of the box.

To a point. Not to completely reiterate what I saidā€¦but thereā€™s something pure about a high revving naturally aspirated M car. Itā€™s the same reason why the Z06 is so impressive, here is a car that rips without the just-add-boost mentality.

Iā€™m sure my sentiments will hold true to that car as well. Maybe Iā€™m too much of a puristā€¦I dunno. For some reason I going to compare the '03-04 Mustang Cobra to the current 5.0 Mustang. The '03-04 went with a power adder and IRS, while the current 5.0 is naturally aspirated and solid axleā€¦guess which car outperforms the other? Iā€™d like to think BMW can put together a stout enough NA powerplant to tear the track up withā€¦kind of like what BMW did for the McLaren F1.

this will probably be more akin to the e36 m3, which is a pretty cool car, but not as extraordinary as the m-cars usually are.
