rear E36 header/manifolds break all the time. they’re not impossible, it’s just time consuming.
I could probably change e46 m3 headers kn about 4 hours start to finish, I’ve been running jvt eBay headers for 2 years now with them on/off a couple times no problem
while your there you might as well slap a turbo on it. your already doing all the hard work.lol
+1
I’ll probably be selling the car withing the next two months anyways so I really just want to fix it right for the next guy.
Ok the headers are in and let me tell you it was a PAIN IN THE ASS.
The rear one isn’t a problem at all, it is the front one! I left the studs in the head thinking you could slip the header on overthem, well man was I wrong. So then I had to go back, double nut them and pull them all out. FML. 6 hours later I’m done.
Open long tubes on a e36 M3 is soooo loud. Hoping to have a custom dual 2" mid pipe made up today.
stud remover makes it 100x easier, double nutting all them bastards had to suck.
Honestly, at about 9.30pm I could have punched a baby. I’m just happy that all the hardware was fine, didn’t break, and was re-used.
Oh my hands look as if they’d been attacked by a cat, ripped to shit.
i stock all the studs for common stuff like that, 911 valve cover studs, all sorts of sizes of exhaust studs, heat nuts, lock nuts, stover nuts, nylock nuts. usually in NY when it gets into hardware, it means war…
yeah. I wish I had replaced my studs.
your supposed to replace the nuts everytime they are removed or they will keep backing out on you. Also when installing aftermarket headers/manifolds i always remove the pass side motor mount and jack up the pass of the motor about 5-6in depending on fan shroud in the way. this offers optimal clearances so you dont have to do things like remove the studs.
I thought about doing this, but didn’t. Shame on me. I hope they don’t back out, being copper I was hoping they would expand once heated and stay in place. O well I could go back and double nut them all LoL
