BMW Tire Suggestions

I can’t find the thread in autos. I am ordering tires off Tire Rack for the 135 and the OEM ones are Bridgestone run flats. Anyone have suggestions for alternative run flats? There is some cheaper ones for sure and since I will need front ones next year, debating moving to a different brand and going with all 4.

Also, since they are run flats, are they OK to order online and have random shops do them or do I need extra parts, sensors, and other BS to get them mounted and just easier going to BMW and getting bent over?

I ran Continental DWS instead of the run flats on my 335. Bought them locally (they matched tire racks price), the shop didn’t have any issue mounting them or question why I wasn’t putting run flats back on.

Do you need to have runflats? They’re horrible haha. I had Sumitomo HTR ZIII’s on my APEX wheels and actually really liked them. Cheap and quite sticky.

Agreed, the C7 feels like horse shit on the PSS runflats and incredible on the separate wheels w/ the Bridgestone RE71R I use for auto-x, etc.

I’d strongly consider exploring the Bridgestone lineup of 300 treadwear or less summer tires at current - they’re all pretty fkin’ good. Screw the runflat, get AAA if you feel that you need tow insurance.

This is what I did. Probably cheaper than the difference in price for a “good” set of runflats too.

Ditch the runflats. I’m a big fan of Michelin Pilot Super Sports. You don’t need anything extra when you order and I can get them done for you on the side if you’d like.

+1

I went from P-Zero to Pilot Super Sport and the difference is night and day in grip, response, wear and feel… I hear run-flats of any variety don’t even compare to their non-run-flat counter parts.

michelin pilot super sports all the time forever

No spare in those cars, right?

Better make sure you have the baller AAA option…

Depending on how much you use the trunk, can always buy the spare and a scissor jack and tie it down in the back of the trunk. I know its extra weight but if you are really concerned or dont want to have to use AAA. You can find a setup on a forum for usually about $200. The runflats are just not worth it at all. So many better options already mentioned.

Sweet. I just need my back ones replaced but I am assuming if I am ditching the tires, its better to get new tires for all 4 at once. I can mount them on my car, I just need them balanced.

I have Geico as part of it but I hate their towing. I have never had them show up in a normal time frame and I get at least 1-2 flat tires a year.

PSS’s are by far the most popular performance tire on 135’s

I don’t hate the PSS but I don’t love them as much as everyone hypes them either. They’re a decent street tire if solely using it for street use. I don’t find that they have the same amount of usable grip as some other tires, but ultimately, if it’s solely street utilization I can’t imagine that would be a problem. I still stand by the RE71R as the best option for overall performance on the market right now, but it requires an ability to stomach serious tirewear. Get ready to change those things every 7-10k miles easy, haha.

Pretty much what the Bridgestone ones are. Every year I replace the front or the back and not even close to driving hard or tracking my car so just looking for similar performance with a cheaper price tag since I hear people hate on the run flats.

If I use non run flats, will the sensor still work in the car to detect tire pressure or will the alert that is on all winter with the steel wheels and winter tires be there 24/7?

if you keep the TPMS with the new tires it will still function properly just as it did before. great warning for slow leaks that keeps you from needing AAA or a tow sometimes.

Ya no chance you get any more than 10-15k out of a set of rears no matter what you buy. Any spirited driving does them in pretty quickly. Wonderful cost of ownership with a fun car

+1 on TPMS. Never had an issue swapping wheels from non-runflat to runflat in the Stingray - and yeah, I agree. If you can afford a fun car, you can afford good tires - even if they wear quickly IMO.
