Bought a 2002 Caviler, Dead Compression!!!

So like it says, compression is 100, 55, 30, 0.

I have no background with these cars, basically just picked it up for resale after I fix it.

Does anyone know the common issues within these heads? Does the chain ever jump time??? Cracking head issues like the gayyy escorts??

I just want to get a hold onto what im lokin for before I tear into this pile :shoot:

if theres no compression, pull the head off and take it from there

best bet is probably a junkyard motor… cheapest, and it’s about a 6 hour swap; done.

I agree on the junkyard swap, there everywhere in there, pos’s…but if i have to just swap a $25 head onto it thats a hell of alot easier. Im prob going to pull it apart later tonight and figure it out. I just wanted to check to see if there were any common problems with the top ends before I took it all apart…

what motor is it the eco crap? they tend to bend valves as the chain gets looser and jumps teeth, ive done a few of them,… last one i pulled had 5 or 6 bent valves…

just tear it down, youll have to anyway. :d

Perhaps you should do leak-down.

x2. Not to mention that motor will cost $300 if you find the right place.

an 02 cavy is not ecotec, it has the 2.2 ohv motor…

Thats true POS cars

Performance operating system?

02 could have either engine so you know .

yaaaa.
could have either 2.2 or 2.4

pull head send out whats that an hour worth of work

Also 2 2.2L that yr

02 cavalier had these motors

2.4L (VIN T, 8th digit)
2.2L, VIN 4 (8th digit), gasoline
2.2L, VIN 4 (8th digit), CNG (opt KL6)
2.2L, VIN F (8th digit), w/EGR port in head
2.2L, VIN F (8th digit), w/o EGR port in head

no matter which motor pull the head. that 0 reading on number 4 means it should be something pretty obvious.

I have a 2.2 out of a 98 s10. not sure which way, if not both, they are cross compatible… (body is off the truck, would take ten minutes to pull)

You can go to car-part.com and get quotes for motors that cross reference to fit this car…

Should be very cheap, this is a boat anchor type motor…

Back in 02, I paid $550 for a 2.4 with 3k on it…

I can’t imagine the price would have been going up.
