Came across this at work…just thought it was a pretty cool body conversion. Comment

But

:nono to the v-6

The only thing I like about it is that it makes it easier to get to the engine, those access panels in the stock form can be annoying. Though they are probably still there, between that and the trunk/boot its probably super easy to work on now.

It needs some bigger wheels to fill out the wheel wells and a slight drop in the rear and it would be sick.

First of all its a Flat 6 not a V6, secondly outside the real Carrera GT(which has been discontinued) and the V8 equipped Cayenne’s their whole line up consists of flat 6 engines. In the Boxster world the cool thing to do is to take the flat 6 out of a carreraS and put it in a boxster.

ok tim…6cyl, i’d rather see that whole engine bay used up.

i dunno about you guys…but that car is pretty damn sick…

The “whole engine bay” as you say…IS used up. The Boxsters designed is based on power/weight ratio and extreme balance. It’s a mid-engine RWD car that is essentially as fast as the 911 around most tracks due to the extreme balance of the car and driveability. As soemone previously stated, Porsche’s flagship in their sports cars (other than the CGT V10) is based around their notoriously impressive flat-6 engine design. The created and perfected the horizontally opposed engine design which has shown to be possibly the most effecient way to make a motor. If you want a company to use up an engine bay…go buy a Corvette or a Viper.

Actually i just might get a corvette

:nod Many Boxster and Cayman fans are let down that Porsche does not put a LSD in from the factory, the best theory most can come up with is that if the Boxster and Cayman did come equipped with a LSD their performance would exceed its big brother. The boxster has received a bad rep from the very early models, the later 986’s and all of the 987’s are brilliant cars, if your looking at a base 911 carrera cab. over a boxster S you either have money to burn or a strong desire to own a 911.

^ That’s exactly correct. We installed a quaife 1.5 lsd into a 07 Cayman S for a customer along with Milltek headers/sports cats/cat-back and WOW. What a HUGE difference a few mods made on that car. So much fun and probably the most balanced car I’ve ever spent any sort of time in. Drove head and sholders better than my Elise and was much more predictable upon every entry and exit. Boxster or Cayman + LSD = :bowdown

An elise and a cayman are very different cars, I’m not familiar with the specs, but I’d guess the Cayman weighs around 1000lbs more. The elise is far from balanced, its just very light and the suspension is very well tuned from the factory, the feel of the elise is its best feature, the steering is about as good as it gets in terms of feedback, response, etc… Factory non-LSS equipped elises tend to heavily understeer and the LSS equipped cars tend to oversteer, neither is neutral. The cayman is more of a “complete” car and significantly more refined, while the elise is an amazing accomplishment from an almost has been company, Porsche’s ability to engineer is second to none. I have yet to drive a 997 Turbo, but from what I’ve been told it is going to be hard to improve, its the pinnacle of Porsches ability to engineer a car with the engine in the wrong spot!

porsches give me boners ;D
