Brute Force BBK Build

My brute force 750 was just diagnosed with bend rod syndrome. To build or not to build. Check out Big Kevs performance as well, very popular and some great kits for the brutes.

Eagle One MAG Wheel cleaner works awesome on the cases. Any auto parts store usually has it.

post a thread about that!

How did you bend a rod? Did you sink it, drop a valve?

Couple reason’s why I went with FST instead of BK. Mickey was strait with me, answered all my questions. BK was also more expensive. I got the 665 kit for $850. Muzzy was $450 from vforce john.

I looked at BK, sent emails and left a few messages and never got any response back. So he got scratched of my list.

I unfortunately bought it used last week and heard a strange noise… No idea what he did

That’s to bad. Did you notice it before you bought it?

Little update. Cylinders are done and my tires are mounted. Going to leave work a little early so I pick them up before they close. My valve spring tool came in yesterday so I will do those tonight then wash the head and cylinders down. Still have to get some oil, assembly lube for the cams, and change cam gears. Then I can start putting it back together

I feel a cold coming on :cough: :cough: Might have to call in tomorrow.

I heard a slight noise. I felt it was the primary clutch possibly needing ajdustment or shoes. Took the primary off and it still clicked. :frowning:

Have you pulled it apart yet? If its top end tick check valve lash or timing chains. It takes a lot to bend rod. Hope you get it worked out, buy a manual if you haven’t already. Kawieriders is a great forum if you aren’t on it yet. They can help you out.

Work a few hours tonight. Installed hd valve springs, checked ring gap, and got front piston/cylinder on. Ill take some pics tomorrow. Motor should be together tomorrow.

turns out its a crank bearing. Timing chains are fine. A few guys on that forum seem to run toyota vehicle bearings for the crank to stiffen them up, would have never thought!

:update:

Motor is back together. Took about 4 hours. I was setting cam timing on the rear cylinder and one of the chain guides came out so I had to pull the head to fix it so that set me back. Still have to do exhaust, fluids, wideband and jet the carbs. Then I can fire it up. Motion Craft did a great job on the cylinders, 2 day turn around. Dropped them off Tuesday night got the call Thursday before lunch.

Rear cam

Cam profile difference. Old left, new right. Also old pistons with 1200 miles.

All back together

She runs. I need to up pilot as you can see in the vid. With choke on a bit it will rich up.

Vid. Took with my phone so sound is shitty. Quiet core and spark arrestor still in. Those will come out.

Last list to do before I can take it out and break it in.

Shim needles
Check valve lash
Rear carb is sticking, have to look into that
Need a stronger powersource for wideband, For now its wired to the key, going to have to take it back to the main harness
Change front brakes
Change oil. Never know if some coolant got into crank case from pulling it apart. Oil is cheap, bottom end is not
Check coolant level
Trailer out to my parents to run it in and jet it.
Race my brother. He has the same quad as me but still stock

update

Had little time to take it out. Only have about 10 miles on it so far but its running better and better, you can tell the rings are sealing up. Even with the cold mornings it will literally fire up as soon as I touch the button with the choke on. Jetting takes a bit to do, shimming the needles takes the longest as I have to pull plastic/airbox/carbs. Idle and mid range are spot on, wot is super rich. Next step is to drill 12 1" holes in the air box cover. That will give it almost 4 times the area of the stock inlet for air to come in. That will really wake it up, jetting should go from 150/150 to 190/190ish and ill probably have to use 2 washers on the needles. Its hard to find time to work on it since its out at my parents.
Thinking we should set up a nyspeed quad meet in a couple weeks.

this is a pretty interesting build. nice to see something different.

That thing sounds nasty

Had time to mess with it today. Did a air box mod. Before I was in the 10’s a/f ratio with 170mains. I blocked off the stock restricted intake tube to air box, drilled 14 1"holes in the air box top and a new air filter set up. After the air box mod I kept the 170 mains and it turned way lean, high 15’s a/f. Need to run full choke and still was a tad lean at WOT. Seems I might have to be around 200mains for jetting. Its pulling in a lot of air now. Stock jetting is 138/142 main. It really pulls hard, with right jetting it will be pretty nasty.

2 vids Right after mod, cams have a little lope to them. It sounds a lot deeper in real life. Phone doesn’t pick it up good.

Here you can see the intake restriction. I cut out the baffle and capped off the intake tube.

Awesome work!!

Thanks

Got it jetted, runs awesome. My brother has the same quad that’s stock, pull 10-12 lengths by 60mph. Front wheels up till 20-25mph as I’m pulling away from him. I’m really impressed with how it turned out. From how it feels it and how much faster it is to my brothers it has to be over 70hp. This kit has proven many times that it can double the hp.

Couple pics from behind my parents house.

Some updates. Jetting is spot on, needles are shimmed .08, still running 40pilots but i’m out 3.75 turns on air/fuel screw so I might up to a 42. Mains are drilled 5/64" which equal about 200, true mid to high 12’s a/f the whole way. Before I could hit about 64ish mph but after 45-50 it would fall flat and take a long time to hit it. Now i’m hitting the limiter at 72-74 real quick, it never stops pulling. The st2 cams are real strong up top. Next step is to pull clutch off and send it out to have it machined, rebuilt, new weights and spring. Then i’m gonna run a electric pump and do a cross over mod which will connect the intakes together simulating bigger carbs. Crossovers add 5-7 whp on a stock machine so I expect 10whp. Next year i’m thinking of re-sleeving and jumping to a 765. I’m having more fun modding this than I ever did with my gtp.

This weekend i’m heading down to bolivar with a bunch of guys. Should be a couple 450’s, 400ex’s, and one guy has a raptor 700. I’m hoping the kid with the rene will show up. We shall see how I do.
