Buffer/polishers

So im looking to purchase a buffer. Currently im looking at…

Porter Cable Random Orbital Polisher (7427), (which alot of people recommend) &

Dewalt Heavy Duty Variable Speed Buffer (which also alot of people recommend)

Now my whole thing is, can the porter cable do all the stuff that a dewalt can? Since its just marked as a polisher…

My buddy details for the Sewickley car store. He uses the Dewalt variable speed and hasn’t broke in 5 years. I would DEFINITELY want the variable speed.

The Porter Cable is a variable speed as well.

From what I’ve gathered, the PC is a little better if youo’re just starting to detail as it’s more fool proof… It’s really easy to burn paint with a rotary (the DeWalt) becuase ti just spins, the PC spins but also rotates.

However the PC isn’t quite as abrasive, so tougher paint defects may need the DeWalt.

Rotary Buffers (the DeWalt) always take more practice and skill before taking them to the paint of a vehicle. Given, they will always do a great job if you know how to use them, and use the proper pad/polish combos. I don’t have one based solely on the fact that I’m afraid of damaging the paint, because I don’t have much practice. You’d be suprised on a defined edge how fast one can burn the paint. Not trying to turn you off to them, they are great machines, but you have to know how to use one before you take it to the paint.

I am a fan of the PC (I have a Porter Cable 7336), because it’s pretty much impossible to burn the paint, but it can also do the work of a rotary with an aggressive enough pad/polish combination. I think it’s a better all around tool if you don’t have the time to get really good at using a rotary. For pads, I recommend Edge Pads (www.edgepads.com) because they have an adapter for the 7424/7427/7336 polishers and pads that are double-sided, snap on, and are automatically centered.

Dewalt is the only buffer i use, don’t buy anything else or you will regret it, and please o please if this is the first time you have buffed a car try it on someone elses first so you diont fuck anything up on yours
