Build Your Own Lotus 7

I finally Got around to starting the frame after months of having steel sit on the shop floor. Since I am a big guy and like my room I decided to go with the
Mcsorley 442 frame

Info on the frame is here…http://mcsorley.net/locost/

Anyways, as for powertrain, I plan on using the miata engine/tranny. I am as yet undecided on rear ends. Control arms will be fully adjustable circle track units as i want adjustability. Hoping to have her on the road by june/july 2008.

Pretty Much anything rwd that will fit in the engine bay. The miatas are relatively cheap and easy to find though.

WOW congrats on starting this project! I hope that you finish it.

Are you on Locostusa.com?

I have been building mine this summer. Here is a link to my builders log. I’m looking a Transmission this week, if this go thru i will have all the parts for my drivetrain, so i can finish up my chassis and build mounts.

Good luck
Ken

Yes that is one of the main reasons that guys use the square bar. Its just easy to work with, when mounting bodywork. Also all the avilable plans out there are with the square tubing.

thats lame… if i had the time to do it i would use roundbar… just fishmouth it and bang it in there… not that hard to make gussets to mount bodywork

+1, but then again if he wants to sell this thing when he is done, i really dont think any average joe buyer would care if its roundbar or square tubing. and isnt roundbar more expensive

Either way, this will be be sick.

To each his own.:gotme:

there would be a LOT of time refitting and making sure that all the lengths are correct. It would just be more work, on a allready time consuming and difficult project.

Good luck ECO! I just picked up a transmission last night :headbang: So my driveline is almost set.

Considering the majority of builds like this never get completed I think adding a bunch of difficulty just to make the frame look nicer is a pretty bad idea.

But when you get tired of your automatic and want to build a real car with a manual order up your round tubing and have at it. j/k
