im looking to match some RAM for this mobo, at least 2gb… help with that?.. still haven’t selected a video card… i plan on some very light video editing and maybe some light gaming… anyone want to give me a good suggestion?

also, plz provide some feedback on my build y0  this is my first real build and i want to make sure i piece it together right. i was hoping on staying under 2k… but i need a monitor, which will most likely be a dell 24in wide screen im looking at 2500. if anyone wants to suggest anything im up to suggestions.

2 Raptors in raid will perform better. Unless you need that much hd space, Id skip out on all those. Nice case, Nice Psu. If your a light gamer, and crossfire isnt in your plans, 850w might be overkill. Cut it back to 700-750 and put the money elsewhere. Nice mobo, probably reliable and stable but i doubt an intel chipset will overclock well. I could be wrong though. Despite common belief that quad cores run slower in some spots, they really dont. Lots of programs utilize quad core nowadays and newer games will start to implement them. I have an e6600 which is basically your cpu only I personnally think its better. I have mine at 3.6ghz 1600fsb. Its nice, but id rather have a q6600 at those speeds. Especially since you are going 64 bit, pick up a quad and overclock it a touch. As for thermal paste go mx-2. Itll work on anything. Cpu, gpu, nb, sb, mosfets, etc. No need to match ddr2 1200 since your fsb is only 1333. Unless you overclock you wont need more than ddr2 667mhz technically, but get 800 to leave yourself some room. I prefer kingston hyper x series. They arent expensive. $120 ish for 2 gigs, cas 4, 800mhz probably. Also if you get a 24’’ monitor and will be cranking some high res, youll want at least 512mb ram on your video card. The new 8800gt will be out very very soon. Within a week or 2 i beleive. $250 and it comes close in performance with the 8800gtx’s. Its supposed to be the successor to the 8800gts’s. Since your board supports crossfire, maybe a 2900xt will do. Stuff to think about.

This ram is great,I’ve been using it for a few months and its been rock solid.Ram is cheap,no reason to pay for expensive stuff unless you’re overclocking.

You’ll probably need a decent video card, especially with a 24" monitor and running anything but its native will look shitty.8800GTS at minimum.$3xx range. Not to mention vista and DX10 gaming.

Your build looks pretty kickass, mine is similar…E6600 w/2gb/7900GT and it runs vista ultimate with no problems.

That build looks good to me, id get a 2-300$ vid card, 8800gt is suposed to be solid.
And dam, thats alot of storage…
PSU is awesome…

Um, Im not sure if 2gb will cut it with you and vista. I have 2gb in my mac and i run out all the time when im running a few apps at the same time, or editing a large file in photoshop. Id consider going to 4gb. If you have 4 slots on that mobo its cheap to do, but if its only 2 slots, you might want to look into getting a mobo with 4 slots or more, or see if 2x 2gb sticks are cheap enough.

8800gtx should be good

your hdd’s are fine but I would go with these instead:

you dont beed raptors btw.

no experience w/ vista so idk.

great case, I love mine.

Nobody needs raptors, then again nobody really needs 750gb storage. Its a fact that raptors are faster than 7200rpm hds any day of the week, especially in raid. If your not going to be gaming 8800gt is a good buy.

if you are planning on running vista and running games, either get another gig or two of ram, or get no less than 512 dedicated video ram. My 2 cents. In what I’m building currently, I’m getting 4 gigs of ram with 320 dedicated video ram.

24’’ monitor, im assuming its 1920x1200…512mb vid card at least, just to be safe.

Just buy the 24" iMac with 2gb RAM. Well under 2500 and it’s awesome… not to mention, it includes the 24" monitor.
