I just found out about this through twitter. Apparently the water is up to Row 10 at the Calgary Flames arena. All equipment is destroyed. 100,000+ Evacuated.

I saw the headline and just skipped over it figuring it was some part that usually floods. This seems more like that 500 year floodplain epic type of flood.
Saw Bing’s status earlier, apparently he has a home here?
good lawd
That’s insane!
My sisters used to live there a few years ago buy moved back to the falls area. Thankfully.
failboat?
yes my business parntners and i just bought a home in the Douglasdale area and it is in the evacuation zone… the whole city is fucked right now.
we had one of our trailers stolen Friday night from behind our shop there…
I also flew a guy in because we have business to service in Lethbridge right now and he got stuck in Calgary because all of the roads were closed and the city was halted. He couldnt even get south far enough to get to our house to see if it is okay… i’m sure it is though. the only risk is the sewer back up. We’re quite far from the river. 1000 other homes will be lost before ours.
The guys i flew in early Thursday made it in and took some incredible pictures of business and areas we drive by all the time that were completely submerged over cars and trucks.
Best thing… I am flying in shortly too but i hear that the highways are back open…
Calgary is basically a One-Highway city… if the deerfoot trail is shut down (HWY 2 through the centre of the city) then the whole city is fucked up.
There are reports of people seeing bodies floating in the flood waters.
On a somewhat positive note, Calgary has some of the most volatile weather in Canada and that makes the residents quite resilient to this type of thing. They’re like the New Yorkers of Canada in that regard i would say so i am sure everyone will be fine.

Also, Canmore if FUCKED… i have a few friends there
and the Trans Canada HWY through Canmore to Banff has collapsed in many parts.
I thought it was still winter up there.
Wow! I’ve been watching and mother natures power is just awesome.
I keep thinking about the number of people. That’s like Barrie’s population.
This is a crazy summer so far, La Niña seasons are very damaging. 2002&2011
So we are probably in for more as aug. rolls in.
yeah for this crap to be happening in June in Calgary is bananas… they usually get hit with the heavier stuff in July / August.
I know nothing about the Geography / Geology of that area, but after some searching:
Calgary is actually in quite the target area because of where it’s situated in the Bow River Basin. Think New Orleans but on a smaller scale.
… not that anyone cares except me, lol.
Hope everyone stays safe.
Yea I heard them say that while downtown is draining one of the rivers will flow in reverse temporary because of the shear volume of water.
some images for you guys. A friend works for a hyundai dealer that lost 130+ cars on a storage lot that also had some BMW’s etc in it.
this is what it looked like under water:
and afterwards:
Poor 6 Series
I was laughing at the hyundais/fords then I got sad.
i just landed in Calgary today…and was honestly expecting the whole city to still be in pretty bad shape. Surprisingly, everything seems to be normal (at least in the downtown area) apart from some electricity outages in some parts. Glad to know that when unfortunate things do happen, the government is ready to reverse the damage. Further, I have been hearing of how volunteers played a HUGE role in getting things a bit back to normal.
I’m going to be driving through alberta July 15-18
Toronto now?
Yeah but due to sustained rainfall over a short period of time. There really isn’t any infrastructure that can handle 5" of rain in only a few hours. (1" = ~18,000 Gallons of water per sq mile)
Sad Ferrari:
