The white Z was running low 13’s all night. He knocked me out of the second round when i bogged my launch a bit. I think his best was also 13.2 at pretty well the same mph as i had (110). He was at 18 psi. BTW, thanks for the pics chromey, we can always count on you for great photo coverage at the events. :thumb
Definately sounds like Dan’s (Dconz) car. And sounds like he’s getting faster. (That’s gotta be a new record for him, eh) With those times in Calgary, he’s going to be giving me a serious run for my money at Bud Park now.
18 psi… I’ll have to ask him how he solved the boost-falloff problem that he & I were both experiencing last year.
Yep best ET’s yet @ 13.2 , still with poor 60’ times, 2.3-2.6s. I should have no problem with 12’s at Bud Park!!
I still can’t believe I took second on the weekend, lots of other faster cars but between the luck of the draw in the first round and one extreeeemly close race in the semis (like 13.23 to 13.43) I think it came down to driving consistant again.
It was cool that Shawn (Red 600HP Z) and I met up in the finals, a good showing for the Z having us both there in the end! I could only hope for a red light or blown shift against that monster. I actually got him out of the hole, I think I had a 0.012 reaction time and had him for about 30feet… until he spooled, then I could only watch as he schooled me on why I need a turbo upgrade!
Boost fall off, I just started shifting earlier (just before 6K) and cut down my ET’s by almost a full half second! I might have been able to see the same results runnning at 15psi, I was really hoping for more runs in qualifying but the event was pretty non-stop and not much time to fiddle with things and try out different approaches.
13.2 in Calgary with 2.3+ 60fts? What have you done to your car since last year? That makes it quite a bit better than you had it set up before, doesn’t it?

Maybe we’re talking about different things. “Power” falls off above 6k normally anyway (whether you have boost problems or not), that’s just the nature of the stock turbos w/ stock cams, so I know what you mean by short shifting it. But I was talking about the boost pressure falloff you and I were both experiencing on the dyno last year. I was hitting 17psi, but it would then drop to 13. I thought you had a similar problem.
So you were hitting 18psi this time? And did it hold?

PS - sorry about the thread hijack.[/quote]
Actually hitting 19-19.5 on my gauge then only a couple PSI drop. Not as much as you are seeing. Really depends on air flow, ambient temps and engine/intercooler heat soak.
As far as shifting yeah thats what I was getting at, trying to catch the bubble of the stock turbos efiiciency.
The only upgrade since last year was the lightened flywheel and new clutch. I did also tweak the fuel maps after qualifying but it was hard to tell since the temp outside was already on its way down. I really think just the change in shifting and launch played the biggest factor. No more burnouts they just build heat and don’t help on the street skins.
Ya, DConz, i want a grudge match race against you at scc edmonton, haha, i was having trouble with the launches all night (my external wastegate was opening up too early, only allowing for full boost at 5000 rpm) and i should be good and tuned by that time too, lol. Good job on 2nd too, nice to see the nissans on top.
