Can I legally sell a car to someone in Canada, and deliver it?

Bing, the problem isn’t with the registration process, it’s with the fact that Mark will be hassled at customs for going over with a car register in his name, and being driven back by a random Canadian an hour or so later without his car. There isn’t any way to cut that where you aren’t going to end up inside at customs being harassed. If the guy is registering it in NY anyway, there is no reason for him not to conclude the deal, plate and register it, and drive it back himself.

That has exactly 0.00% to do with the topic of this post. A+

If guy plans on driving you back over with another car than why doesn’t he just come over with other car and a friend to pick up your car? Done deal.

ah yes, this occured to me while laying in bed pondering over this scenerio last night.

i’ve been asked a few times recently when crossing the border if i was going to sell my car when i was over there… i was a bit surprised seeing as how i had Ving with me.

Only kink in it is his father’s name is going on it, and he’s down in NYC, so a POA will be necessary.

just fyi they dont keep track or have any records of how you cross the boarder. you can always drive over and come back by foot or bus. i have done it many times as long as you have the proper id.

Actually, I think it has a little to do with it considering I did the opposite in that I went there as a passenger in one car, and drove a car I bought back to the states that I bought. I’m familiar with some of the laws and I’m a brain to pick, if he feels so inclined, about crossing an int’l. border involving the sale of a car. So don’t be such a dick about it.

Riding up there, purchasing a Canadian car, and driving it back ≠ Buyer coming to US, purchasing car, you driving it to Canada on your plates, then him driving you home.

But good try…

Why would you have driven up to Canada, and then walked back to the US

for some french fries and gravy sir

Why can’t I own a Canadian?

I told him that I would not be able to deliver the car, and he still wanted it badly enough to make plans to bring it across the border himself. He is coming tomorrow morning and the rest of the sale is going as planned. The hassle is that now his dad has to come from NYC to register it all the same day, but that’s his problem, I will be paid and done.

So, the car is pending sale, and should be gone tomorrow early morning!

There was a guy who just bought a car in buffalo. He was getting hassled badly by the canadian immigration while I was in there getting my visitors permit. I was loling the whole time because his story was changing constantly. I wonder if this was coincidence.

When I sold my S2000 to a guy in toronto, he had come over with cash (cool for me) and he made plan for the boarder people to meet with him to bring the car over, which you have 48 hours to get there or you have to apply again to met them.Pay your duties on the car (with receipt from seller) then you get a in transit plate from the NYS DVM. All set. If the person plans, he will have no issues.
Over all i think i did this in week from the time guy looked at my car and gave deposit and come back next weekend with a friend to pick up;[COLOR=“Silver”]
