Can you take over someones customized plates if they give you permission?

Can I transfer plates that I had customized into someone elses name? I want to transfer my customized plate to my eclipse “2slowbro” from my name to my Grandmothers name for insurance reasons, is that possible?

yes, i forgot the process but you can do it. when i was 16 my first vehicle was registered in my fathers name and i had custom plates. after a few years when i could offord the rates of my own insurance we switched everything over. i know its possible, but it was a while ago.

believe you need to go through the custom plate division.

they need to be put in “storage” through the dmv. then a letter has to be sent for their release to you.

I don’t believe so from my brief looking into it, unless maybe family, as far as regular plates go.

I was trying to see if there was any way to get blue plates from somebody else to register with. I didn’t come up with any avenues of doing so.

all else fails you can turn the plates in then remake them later

Yes you can. My uncle has the vanity plates on the '70 AMC Matador here that were on it for years back when his friend owned it before he passed away.

As to how you do it, best to just go to DMV and find out.

Maybe personal plates have different rules.

I believe the exchange is blocked to prevent people selling plates or there being a market for them especially for desirable ones. Custom ones would logically fall into this.

i did it. v8lonoma did. my father had to put them into storage at the dmv. after they were in storage a letter was written releasing them to me…they were then mailed to me.

It’s pretty much this but custom plates aren’t really my domain but the number for custom plates is 402-4838 they’re available from 8-4 and will be able to tell you all the steps needed.

Oh yeah if they are blue plates now you will end up with yellow plates. We’re totally done with blue and white and the only way to keep the blue and white is to keep renewing them in your name. Once it changed names it goes ugly lol.

Shits like $80 a month for my infinti and the eclipse in her name, for me its like $340 a MONTH. lol
