You may not have liked it but, at least Bush and The Republicans didn’t try to take EVERYTHING you have. Were you in desperate need of welfare or something? How did Bush effect your life that much? Anyhoo, the only way to put a dent in global warming (if it exists) IMHO is to wait for the inevitable population crash. The doomsday bug is here, it’s called “human.” We’re steadily eating away all our resources. IIRC the topsoil loses about a foot of thickness per year in the midwest, the water table in China is 50 feet lower than it was 50 years ago, etc. I don’t remember those exact numbers, but that’s somewhere on the correct order. The global warming problem is caused overpopulation, not burning greenhouse gases. That’s an effect, not a root cause.
Not that this bill is about that, it’s about politics and economics. I haven’t read it yet (and don’t trust an analysis from a news network farther than I can throw it) so I’ll save my judgment until after I have read it for myself. Just like you guys do, right?

the problem with the human factor is just that, we are human. and no one will let a mass of people die. there will always be scientists trying to solve the next problem we have and most likely will be successful. (i hope lol).
i think this bill is mixture of good intentions, back door handshakes, and socialist health care cost reduction.

You said the same thing was going to happen to you from the financial bailout. And the stimulus plan. And New York raising the minimum wage. And 20 other other things. The sky is not falling. You will be fine. Quit pre-emptively calling the government “taking EVERYTHING you have” because it just makes you look stupid when you’re wrong.
And in terms of what Bush did, he got some of my friends killed in Iraq, made it damn harder for my sick relatives whose best chance at a cure is stem cells, helped the economy go to shit and made it much harder for me to find a job when I finished school, not to mention CAUSED the necessity for so much government intervention that you hate so much. Not to mention underfunding my mom’s school with his stupid fucking NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND to the point that it was easier to take early retirement than try to teach 35 kids with 12 languages at a time, and made every international vacation I went on in that timeframe just a little bit more unpleasant when the rest of the world fucking hated us until it got out that I despised my leader. So yes, Bush did directly affect my life, a hell of a lot more than Obama is impacting yours right now.

False. A tax increase is when we say “This rate is now going to be this higher rate.” or “This is going to be taxed now when it wasnt.” Not “If your power company pollutes too much they’re going to have to buy credits to do so.”

on the topic of the emmissions… My buddy is currently working for a start up company out in san jose thats pioneering a technology in a filter which sits in the stacks of factories and is able to ulilize sea water in a steaming action to convert the CO2 in the exhaust into a mineral deposit that when collected, can be turned into concrete (more or less). Its a neat thought so long as its not cost prohibitive, because it can work to lower the companies CO2 output by changing its composition. They’ll also have a marketable by-product.
That is the type of thing that will never come to prominence unless something like this legislation forces the companies’ innovation hand. What’s the company name?
