First of all, there are tariffs included in the bill to level the playing field, based on global warming legislation in other countries or lack thereof. If they don’t have any, like China, then you’re going to have to pay more to import their shit since they have that advantage.

It’s going to make jobs in fields like the one Janus said. Companies aren’t just going to nut up, pollute as much as they do now, and pay the tax. They’re going to be spending a ton of money on R&D to try to find ways to pollute less and get around it. Companies that find ways to do so will have explosive growth. = jobs.
I am sorry for the retard comment. Based on your post #51 I should have said you are disingenuous. Playing the symantics game is fun though isn’t it?
I am sure you have a high IQ, that is a great tool you just need to learn how to use it.
Thank you.
I do use it. Just all of my views are the opposite of yours. And you read so much biased opinion “news” based on what you post here that you get it ingrained into your head that there is only one side on every issue.
Do you ever read the left-wing sites just for perspective? I check out drudge report and fox news once in awhile just to get the other side’s take. It offers a lot more insight on the issue than just relying on democracyforamerica and moveon for all of my news. I think it would be invaluable for you to get both sides on these issues instead of just the reactionaries.
I honestly don’t mean to be a dick but why don’t you move to a country that has what you want? The USA is(was) a free country, pretty much the ONLY free country. Why do you want to change or as I see it, destroy that? You only have to move a few miles north. Seriously.
The USA has the kind of leadership now that has what I want. The past 8 years was a different story. I believe in Obama. He’s off of my views on some things, but he’s pretty damn close. Congress sucks, but Congress has always sucked and I suspect it’s not much different elsewhere. Why would I leave? I think you should ask yourself that one. Except no country has what you want. But you are the one whose views are becoming farther and farther away from mainstream American society. The majority of the country is in favor of this, health care reform, and our President.
OK here is the real problem…
‘A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government’
We are getting to the tipping point rapidly.
(I know a republic and a democracy are not the same thing)
You really think they will spend a “ton of money” on R&D, when they can spend not as much on a tax instead?
Edit:
lol, what was I thinking… it’s not their money they will be spending, it’s mine.
<3 more government work programs
Big capital investment to overcome annual future payouts, so yes. Same reason why companies spend billions to outfit new factories with robots instead of just hiring people, then they never have to pay labor again. Basically, they can look at it as spend a ton of money in one big lump sum, and overcome the regulations by finding new methods that work, or keep paying more and more each year from now until eternity by failing to comply as the standards get higher and higher. The crazy per-person costs you see are assuming the companies will completely ignore R&D and put out today’s level of emissions forever and just pay more and more taxes. They’re not that stupid.
That is hard to do when the rules are changing. That is the problem with this regulation game. When the govt starts losing revenue they can just make new rules. That is a hard game to win. Guess who pays.

and they have robots because they can’t unionize
This bill seriously has me questioning if I should even buy a house right now.
I mean yes the 16K tax credit will be nice if I buy one, but if I seriously get a 1500-2000 increase in cost why even bother? Sure a house is nice, but instead of dropping 200+K on a place and spending a base of ~3500 per year in taxes…I should just keep my apartment.
3 year cost:
Think 200k+ invested 5% = ~35,000
House taxes x 3 years = ~12,000
Increased energy costs of a house= ~5,000
Cost of house maintenance= ~10,000
Possible increase in home value = ~10,000?
Loss of 36K over 3 years
Rent = $1200 a month totaling 43,200…
Hell I mind as well rent and never have to worry about anything ever and enjoy my life.
Sidenote: I plugged my handy dandy kil-a-watt device in with my computer and found that my computer uses 3 times the energy my giant fridge/freezer uses. $8 in one month!!!
LOL, texas is rubbing off on you if you believe $5000 in increased energy costs.
Which is what many people in the world seem to do… America is the land of owning a house with the two car garage, white picket fence, golden retriever, etc.
I HIGHLY doubt you will see a 1500-2000 increase per house
Really? My total utility bill ranges from $22 in winter to $55 in summer. Do you really think a house won’t net me ~5K over 3 years? What are your utility bills?
Think increased water bill to water yard.
Increased electric to heat/cool a house + pool + cooking etc.
Even if there is only an increase of $200 a month that is over $7000 in 3 years.
Plus I didn’t even add in home owner associations fees. ~$500 per year.
Oh and cable and internet are included in my apartment. So yah…
I pay 87 a month just for electric.
I thought you meant $5000 in increases from this bill. I was LOLing.
I pay $239 a month for electric. Don’t ask.
That isn’t horrid, I remember when my dad owned our bar paying $500+ a month for electric. LoL
I mean I’m still buying a house but it isn’t really my choice all together. :spank:
I do like the idea of a garage though, this will allow me to fix cars for dumb people in A/C.
yeah if this goes through and becomes law do you have any idea how many small businesses will go bankrupt? It may only raise your household taxes by a tiny bit. But corporations will have to lay off a ton of people and raise the price of everything to compensate for the financial loss and to stay in business.
Obama is going to be the cause of the next revolution if this keeps up.
