my friend is having a problem with his car

1995 contour

new starter
new battery

car wont idle… drives ok if you can get it going… once you get to a light, it starts to sputter and dies.

any suggestions?

egr valve, rust clogs the valve holding it open, in turn exh is pumped into the throttle a idle and car shuts down, if not that then the idle air controler…

find the egr valve, hit it with a hammer a few times to shake it up, try running the car again…

If not an egr valve just go through everything plugs, wires, fuel filter. just do a inspection. It’s probly something really simple. But I’d guess the egr valve

1995 contour…thats ur problem…but yea check EGR…fords are gay like that

If the EGR doesn’t fix it…
Check the air filter, also check the Throttle Body gasket (or just get one and replace it because once you go to check it, it should be replaced). Also check for any vac hoses, and see if maybe there is an idle screw… it may just be set for an idle too low.
