Instead of using the typical acoustic tiles, I thought I would try something different for a couple areas of my basement. I had a 10’x10’ hobby room and a 10’x4’ open area with crappy tiles that had to come down. I saw that Armstrong has ceiling planks available in a few colors but the pricing was too high. Lumber Liquidators was running a sale on their Supreme Bamboo engineered flooring. 3 3/4"x5/8". Total cost for both rooms was only about $150.
For install, I face nailed the boards at each end in a neat fashion so that it looks good with exposed brad nail heads. Boards are directly nailed to the joists with shims as needed. After I was done with the boards, I finished things up by using a small cove for crown molding.
**Do not do this if you need to access the area above. Since this is essentially permanent, you could make an access panel if needed.
Great idea! maybe I’ll find a use for that somewhere.
I gotta get hammered and fall asleep in the basement. If i’m fucked up enough I’ll prob freak the fuck out when I wake up, thinking I’m stuck on the ceiling. Haha
