Best place to buy flooring?

My wife and I want to put some bamboo flooring in our kitchen and dining room along with new carpets in most of the house. We went to Prizants and the price was extremely high (I think it was like 5 grand just for the kitchen and dining room floor plus the carpet on the steps and the living room. Now keep in mind we have a townhouse and it is not huge, so we thought 5K for like one floor of our house was a lot. Let me know where you guys have bought flooring from.

Thanks!

I hear that Lumber Liquidators on Campbell’s Run Rd has good prices.
At least 25% lower than Home Depot or Lowe’s, anyway.

One of my buddies did his whole dining room and living room last year with engineered hardwood for under $3 / sq ft. He did it himself. I saw it and it looks great. Durable, too. 2 dogs and 2 cats live there and I couldn’t see any scratches.

How hard is it to install this stuff? I have never done it before and don’t have any heavy duty tools. All I have is like hammers drills and handsaws.

it’s not hard at all, I’ve worked a few jobs with my fathers company and we’ve laid a few. Just to give you an idea via google search

He said it took some time but wasn’t difficult. You can probably rent a miter saw. The hardwood came with its own tool (pry bar or some kind of hammer?) to put the pieces together. The floor floats - so you put down foam and then leave 1/2 inch gap around all sides for expansion. And you get some trim for around the baseboards.

^^like he said. It is pretty simple to do. Check out Home Depot / Lowes for that type of flooring as well. They run sales quite frequently, with really good prices installs included. We looked at that stuff for months before we knew that the hardwood under the carpets in the house we bought were perfect.

Is it tongue and groove? Liek the pieces snap into place? If so that stuff is pretty easy, snap it into place and use a junk piece of the floor to snap into one of the sides and use a 2x4 with hammer to get it snug to the other piece. Some flooring (higher end stuff) will have foam already on it to act as the sub-floor. Also as mentioned about, you leave a gap around the walls for expansion and buy what’s called quarter round to cover the gaps. or you can just get molding to go around. Try not to leave any more than a 1/4" gap.

For carpeting, my mom bought a lot of carpet at our house from Remnant City on Rt. 51 I guess it would be like Overbrook. I do remember Prizant’s being much more expensive than anywhere else we looked.

There is a small flooring shop right next to me. I was considering doing my office with a cork floor. They can get anything. I’ll have to get his number though.

When we built our house we shopped around and went with Molyneux for the carpeting, vinyl, and ceramic. I recwently did my own Pergo, which was very simple especially since there was no gluing involved.

My mother in law just went to molyneux for her carpeting, I will have to look into that.

I plan on going out to Lumber Liquidators on Campbell’s Run next month after I finish up the drywall in our gameroom… If you google them they do have a website. Investors that I work with have used their bamboo flooring in a few of their houses and it’s turned out pretty good, the prices seem to be the best as well

My parents went to Lumber Liquidators and picked up some scratch and dent stuff for like $.50/sq ft or something ridiculous like that. They bought a shitload and there was nothing wrong with 90% of it.

My cousin owns Keystone Flooring on Rt. 66 in Murrysville near Delmont. Tell him Noah sent you, and I’m sure he’ll be able to help you with whatever you need reasonably.

Cork is freakin awesome. We looked into putting in our kitchen, but went with ceramic instead.

Cheap laminate will go in the living room. It will be easy to replace after a few years of abuse by dogs and my 2 boys.

Laminate floor is pretty easy to install.

we did good dupont laminate at my house. holds up well with 2 dogs and spilled beer
