how many of you out their have gone threw the timmies drive through and found your hot coffee all over your lap before you leave the parking lot?
Well i have a solution, install some cup holders. This is a task that is easy and with a few proper tools you can do it within 1 1/2 hrs.
What you need for tools:
-file
-dremel
Knife
-2" hole saw
Drill
Philips screw driver
Parts:
-2 2 1/2" cup holder that are used for boats. They can be found at any boat shop. I found mine at the “Rigging Shoppe” across from jdm imports for $3 each.
-center console lid
You might be thinking “now what?”. well after you have all of the following, you can begin the build.
1)Trace circles on the top side of the lid where you want to put the cup holders. This is where ever you know they will fit without hitting each other.
Remove all the screws on the center console lid that attaches to the hinge and put the center console aside.
3)Next you need to use the hole saw and drill to cut a hole in the middle of the cup holder traced lines on the lid.
Now both pieces of the lid have been drilled, you can now remove the screws holding the unit together on the bottom side. When screws are removed, you will be left with 2 pieces, the top lid and the inside lid.
Take a cup holder and the inside lid and center it around the newly drilled holes. Once centered, trace out the shape. It will look like this when your finished this step.
6)Next step is to take the dremel and cut close to the traced lines without going over. This will create a hole the same size as your cup holder outsides (the cup holders should slip in).
Repet for the top lid.
Next use the file once the holes have been dremeled to open the hole just enough for a snug fit.
8)Filing will leave you with some rough edges. Use the knife to trim off the loose plastic and rough edges.
If your center console has 2 holes in both the lid and the bottom part on the lid, then you are on the right track. both bottom and top should look like this.
Now install the 2 peices back together with the screws your removed before.
To complete the install, place the 2 cup holders into the lid and your finished. Reinstall the hinge screws and enjoy. Don’t worry if your hole don’t line up perfectly. use the file to help widen the holes. The trim on the cup holders will hide any in perfections from the top side.
You have successfully Made cup holders. It should look something like this:
Depending on where you put the cup holders, you might want to take a heat gun and mold the cup holders to the proper shape and glue them down.
Any problem or need more detail just let me know.

Dunno if you got this off of Zilvia or not, but there used to be a guy on there that made these, padded them and wrapped them in leather so they looked almost factory and sold them for a while. He has a whole write up on zilvia how to do it including the upholstry part.
He used cupholders out of Malibu’s and I think sunfires he got from the junkyard, I have probably about 10 here that got for free from a yard, but never got around to actually making them haha.
lol i guess the whole sticking the cup in the ashtray is to micky mouse for me. I do find small cups, cans or mugs dont fis well in the ashtry which is why i made this.
As for someone else doing it, i never heard of it done before. If anyone knows the link i would be very interested to check out how other people approch it.
i could tell you but i would have to kill you… * jumps of a moving train lands on a motorbike turns it into a skidoo and leaps into the ocean and into the sunset…*
im sure you can find others… i originally got the idea from a 06 beemer…
