I have the CR-48 and while it works reasonably well, it also doesn’t do much. I’ve used it to SSH into UB’s servers, etc. but I’ve also submitted a million bug reports to Google since it crashes on me all the time, haha.
I’ve used various Linux distros from Ubuntu to Crunchbang to Joli but the CR-48 is not very powerful (the actual Chromebooks are faster) and I didn’t find the experience or hardware support to be worth the switch.
I don’t personally think what they’re currently offering is worth the money for most people. It will take off with Citrix and Netflix support but even then you’re looking at casual users and the occasional corporate environment. Depends on what you’re using it for though, obviously. Had they decided to include a text editor other than emacs in the root shell and a basic compiler (Google does tons of work with GCC, God knows why it’s not included) I would be using the laptop much more.
